Food Network Sees Ratings Decline in Fourth Quarter 2010

Interesting news: at the same time America experiences an inpouring of celebrity chef influence, Food Network ended the year with a drop in ratings. According to the New York Post, the cable network posted a 10.3 percent drop among viewers age 25 to 54 and "isn't keeping pace with hot competitors' shows like Bravo's Top Chef." Primetime ratings are especially down among women, which makes me wonder if all of you are watching Bravo or PBS instead. Are you still tuning in?

Rarely. Often I just end-up disgusted at the all the meat and grease in the dishes. Also I am tired of all the reality cooking competitions. One or two, okay; now it is a over done trend. The last show I watched on the network was with Curtis Stone. Though not a vegetarian program, I did enjoy seeing how he prepared and dressed the produce. (Okay, and he was quite a charming fellow... ;) )

I watch all the time. I wish I got the Cooking Channel, I would watch that too!

i still watch, but not as much as i used to, which is still quite a bit. I like DD& because it points out little places to visit that I would otherwise miss. Can't stand Fieri though. Also, as a promise to my husband, I am giving it up for "lent" lol. that's going to be a fun 40days.

can't stand the challenge shows either, but i guess reality tv is the flavour of the day! i live in europe, and love watching giada and ina because i can relate to their styles; rachel ray, guy fieri, tyler florence, bobby flay and omg paual deen!! etc i watch out of voyeuristic curiosity as to how americans eat - some of the recipes, methods and dialogue is priceless! food is the best insight into the culture of a nation, for better, and sometimes for worse

I still watch, but not like I used to. I love watching Ina, Good Eats, and Best Thing I Ever Ate, and I must say "Worst Cook" is kind of entertaining. But as for the rest of it? I'm not a huge fan.

I'm watching Ina Garten, Chopped, and I usually like DD&D. I hate watching all the "Challenge" shows.

When there is something new, yes! If you haven't seen "Worst Cooks" give it a try. They had a teacher on who had never had or heard of scallions. Later she admitted she didn't know the difference between a scallop or a scallion. She even said she didn't even know what a scallop was. She's a teacher!

I liked seeing behind-the-scenes on Unwrapped and learning new things on Good Eats. But the rest of the channel was pretty much worthless to me. And since I don't really watch the rest of it, I sort of stopped watching the only few shows I could stand.

I watch Food Network Canada, because that's the channel that airs Top Chef here. (Funny enough, Bravo Canada doesn't.)

I really Food Network on Saturdays and Sundays because of the cooking shows, but on weeknights I have no interest in watching Guy Fieri or who's the worst cook in America.

I think the only show I watch regularly on FN is Chopped and Best Thing I Ever Ate. That's about it. I'll watch from time to time if there's nothing else on.

I don't have Food Network at my house (stupid expensive fancy cable), but I used to watch it a lot when I visited my dad. Not so much anymore though. The only things that are on anymore are Iron Chef, the Next Iron Chef, Food Network Challenge, etc. What happened to the regular cooking shows?

I used to love this channel, but i've stopped watching. I don't feel they have any good quality cooking shows like they used to anymore. a lot has become more competitive / reality type shows instead of cooking shows for people.

No, because everything on their network has become reality tv/competition shows like Top Chef. I occasionally tune in during the day when they have actual cooking shows on (Giada, Ina, etc.), which I miss terribly.

I haven't watched in several years. I remember the days when there were REAL cooks on there: Sara Moulton, Two Hot Tamales, Michael Lomanaco... I do watch TC and the PBS cooking shows on Saturdays.
