Good Food Garden: Love It or Hate It?

While attending the country's first-ever Slow Food Nation this weekend, I came across the Good Food Garden structure that the Food Network and the Share Our Strength unveiled just a week ago.

While I love the fact that Teich Garden Systems, which built the garden, designed it for everything from schoolyards to backyards, I also wonder if it's really necessary to have a special gardening platform, since people have been planting gardens for hundreds of years without them. What do you think of the Good Food Garden?

The soil in my area is bad, so I already do my gardening in containers. Fortunately the only pest who eats my plants is my cat. But if I had bunnies or deer and didn't already have a ton of pots, I'd consider building one of these.

We totally need something like this. We have a raised bed, but its open and omg the squirrels run rampant and we have to chase them out constantly. This might help a ton.

It looks good. I agree with the others that it would keep unwanted animals from eating any produce.

I think it's great. As somone else mentioned, it'd be great for keeping the critters out. Maybe not entirely neccessary, but it'd be nice to have.

I love it. I've been considering building something similar for my own garden because I have about a dozen deer that make their wasy through my yard 2-3 times a day.

well i'm not so sure about the separate platform, but the enclosures (with a padlock!)are definitely a good idea, especially if you live in urban areas - where i live at least, ripe homegrown vegetables aren't going to last very long on my garden patch, especially when food prices are soaring...

I'd love it...I wouldn't have to yell at the kids to watch where they're kicking balls, running, etc.

i actually like this idea. i can understand your point about how we've had gardens forever and don't need a 'structure' but i have to admit that at my mom's house - she's had issues with animals who decide that her veggies are their dinner and they just come in through the fence and eat them. i think that this could be a way to get around the bunnies etc coming through.

This is a great structure. The structure itself will keep out most critter, such as raccoons, rats, etc. The special platform might not be necessary, though. Looks like this is easy to build.
