Have You Ever Attended a Celebrity Chef Book Signing?

This afternoon I'm off to meet Tom Colicchio! He's making a public appearance at William-Sonoma in downtown San Francisco. Besides chatting with me, Tom will be signing copies of his new book 'wichcraft. Have you ever been to an event of this sort?

a close friend of mine, whose a manager at a sur la table had a coupla stories about 2 celebrity chefs. First one, Giada. super sweet and stayed an hour or two later than she was supposed to.... so she was able to sign everyones books! second was mz. Rachel. always canceling, sometimes less than 24 hours notice. left early, and is very rude. lol. .i love gi-hot-a

It was for Sam the Cooking guy. He is the host of local San Diego, CA TV show that recently went national. It was at a Barnes & Nobles and they ran out of books. He had to go to his car and bring out his extras. This was before he even started signing books. Such a whole-hearted down to earth guy.

I went to a "Lunch & Learn" at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival several years ago. Rick Bayless was the guest chef and prepared several dishes for the group. As part of the class, we received his cookbook which he signed for us. It was a great learning experience and inspired me try many new Mexican dishes.

Took my birthday off from work and was 3rd in line to meet Julia Child and have her sign a copy of Baking with Julia the year it came out. Also took my mom, a few years later, when her biography was released to meet Julia at a signing at Harvard U - Julia will be my mom's idol forever. Both times Julia was a pleasure to talk with and it was wonderful seeing my mom so happy.

I met Giada at the Portland W&S about 3 years ago. I waited in line for at least an hour but I was at the head of the line in the store so that was cool. I was about the 7th or 8th person in line. Giada made a movie star entrance from a limo and entourage who made sure no one took pictures,etc. She was very charming and irritatingly good looking-ha,ha,ha! She really took time to talk with everyone. A culinary student (in uniform, in between classes)ahead of me chatted Giada up for an internship and Giada was super receptive and took her info. She signed 2 copies of her book for my daughters and answered questions and was super engaging. When I left the store, the line out the door was a couple of city blocks long at least! SO if you want to meet a superstar chef when they're fresh, get to the venue an hour early to line up!

I met Curtis Stone at a William Sonoma in the Bay Area last week. And yes, he's even more good looking in person if you can imagine. My mother was surprised that I didn't pass out.

No, but my sister inadvertently did. She happened to be shopping at a bookstore when Paula Deen was having a signing there (it was in Savannah). She said Paula Deen was extremely rude.

Not a signing, but I did bring my favorite cookbook when we last ate at Topolobampo and had Rick Bayless sign it there!

We drove to Austin, TX (we live in Houston area) to see Alton Brown do a demo and have our book signed. He was awesome! Entertaining and funny during the demo, and super nice to all the people who stood in line to get their book signed. After we got ours signed, we sat in the food court which happened to be right above. His people kept coming to tell him he was past his schedule and we could hear him telling them - "I'm not leaving until this line is gone." Very cool. Shook hands and chatted with each and every person as if they were the first in line.

I met Ming Tsai awhile ago. He was lovely! He chatted with us and even gave us directions on how to get to his restaurant by public transporation.

no - i haven't. to be honest, i don't really pick up books like that - and haven't really felt the need to go to the signing either but i can appreciate the concept for the book.

I used to try and go see Joyce Goldstein whenever she was signing books - I love her books and I worked my way through college at her restuarant Square One so it was fun stopping by and saying hello.

I met Tyler Florence at a book signing too. He was really nice, but when I went to a Giada one the people were really mean. They kept saying, "please don't talk to her, she's not answering questions, she's just signing books."

I wish I could see Tom but won't be able :( . I am a foodie groupie. . . if Tyler, Giada or Alton are in town I am always in line. My favorite chef to meet was Anthony Bourdain. The lines are long but usually you meet some fun people who make the wait bearable.

I've never done a celebrity *chef* booksigning, but I have gotten autographs from John Hodgman, which was after a reading and Q&A at Borders in Ann Arbor. Fantastic fun.
