Have You Ever Eaten Crawfish?

Before we sat down to John Besh's Tails and Ales Lunch in Aspen, PartySugar told me she'd never eaten crawfish before. "I've never had them," she told me, "but I have a feeling that I'll love them!" It's true there aren't too many crawfish to be had in San Francisco. California is a far cry away from my hometown of Houston, TX, where I grew up eating "mudbugs," as they're called, by the dozen as a kid. Have you had crawfish before?

Omg, at a business dinner in Houston I mentioned I had never had them. Shortly after I was "served" an upside down bowl as a special treat. When I picked up the bowl a live crawfish was underneath. I screamed like it was a freaking alien!!!No! Not for eating :raspberry:

Love them! Didn't grow up with them in NY, but had them in Oklahoma and loved them! One of the main reasons I've been wanting to go down South again is to eat those bad boys. ;)

No, because I can't get them here and I've never been to Louisiana to eat them. I have a feeling I'd probably like them, though.

if you're eating them only "by the dozen", you've never had good crawfish. Good crawfish are eaten by the pounds. As a kid, I could do a couple lbs in a sitting, more as an adult.

Ooooh, I miss my dad's crawfish boils. When I go home, he generally either makes that or BBQ for me. I've thought about having some crawfish shipped to the Bay area and having a crawfish boil party.
