Have You Ever Made Ceviche at Home?

I've had Mexican food on the brain all week, as I've been early to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. This weekend, I served tortilla chips with queso, although I considered offering ceviche. Ultimately, I decided against it; I've made ceviche at home before, but for some inexplicable reason, the idea of preparing and serving myself (and guests) partially raw fish takes some enjoyment away from the experience. What about you? Do you make ceviche?

I make ceviche with fake crab meat. I don't feel as nervous about serving uncooked seafood to guests.

I'm latina so I grew up eating it at home and I make my own all time. I've served it at family bbq's as well. You don't have to be intimidated to prepare it al home because you don't have to use raw fish. My favorite is actually with imitation crab. The way I prepare it is with diced tomatoes and cucumbers, cilantro, shredded crab meat, lemon juice, and ketchup. You can also add diced onions and jalapenos (my aunt's favorite) and add sour cream on your tostada (like my bf does). ps: I've never seen ceviche look like the one in the picture. Lol

I have a super easy shrimp cerviche receipe that I make often. We haven't served it to guests yet, but we are planning a big get together where it will be on the menu. I don't really see why this should be an issue if you have quality seafood to start with.

No....but after a recent trip to Costa Rica and enjoying cerviche at the beach bars every afternoon I am ready to attempt it!.....if only there was a recipe for pork product cerviche!

Ooh I can see why you'd worry. :( I don't think I'd feel comfortable preparing raw fish myself. We've only ever made ceviche with crabmeat though, and somehow it's less intimidating. And mmmm so good.

I have made shrimp ceviche a few times. It's pretty simple, though it is kinda scary dealing with raw seafood, you want to make sure it's properly cooked in the lemon juice.

No, but that sounds awesome. Do you have a specific recipe you use, or do you just kind of gather whatever is handy/on sale?
