Have You Ever Made a Gingerbread House?

I've been wondering how many of you, in the spirit of the season, have made a gingerbread house before. Although last year my labor of love was a mid-century modern gingerbread home, this year I won't be making one — I'm thinking of making a bûche de Noël instead! Are you making one?

I actually volunteered to help my daughters third grade class put theirs together. Nothing like 14 children with 14 gingerbread (graham cracker) houses, with lots of candy of course.

i posted some pics of the three years we have done houses for those of you who are interested. although last year it was actually two train sets that we had that failed miserably so we made them into our semi perverted pirate ship.

When I was 11, the last Christmas my mom was alive, we made a gingerbread house from scratch, very Hansel-and-Gretel-ish looking.:) My mom was incredibly artistic and a very talented cake decorator. That house was an awful lot of work but we had so much fun together. I confess I haven't had the nerve to try it again by myself, although next year I might try the graham cracker or pretzel rod log cabin route.:)

I made 3 last year for my niece and nephew because I couldn't afford to get them presents. This was a fun activity that we did together and they loved it. I was going to do it again this year but I didn't have time.

mudnessa omg LOL pleeease post a picture! I forgot to say that I have made a gingerbread house out of graham crackers and frosting before. that's probably a lot easier than using gingerbread

I did one maybe two years ago. And so far I don't plan on doing one this year either. It was fun doing it with my nephews.

My kids and I are going to make them out of gram crackers this year. The kids are 3 and 6, I'm not going to make gingerbread for kids so young. I've never made a gingerbread house before, so I'm looking forward to making the little ones with my kids!

I've made one from scratch before, but like Yum, I can scratch that off my list. I just use the kit now!

my friend and i got a spongebob squarepants pineapple gingerbread house. it was pretty difficult and it ended up looking ridiculous! yellow icing ALL OVER, candies strewn all over her room, and she ended up putting green icing on her face and legs. lots of fun! yummy too, but messy and tedious, especially if we wanted to make it look decent.

yeah my son makes one and i tell him Santa has a contest to see who can make the best house (he alwasy wins) and the best part is Santa takes it back with him to the north pole to show everyone but leaves a gift as his prize (bonus he makes a house but doesnt get to eat it)

i didn't make the actual house, but the girls at my old office and i participated in a competition for charity so we had a bakery make the actual house and then bought all the candies and decorated the sickest house! it was SO COOL! it was also huge. it had christmas lights and stucco and shingles and grates on the windows, and a walkway and a pond and trees. it was SWEET. but actually making the house would have made my head explode. i'm not that patient!

yes mutilated ones are the way they always go even when we set out for normal. my brother and husband make sure of that. i did leave one piece of info out about the pirate ship that i shall now share . . . we had penis candies from a gag gift and well they made it on the ship too, it was pretty crazy.

i made one when i was younger, but it's been a LONG time since i've done it and i have no intention of doing it this year. i think that once i have kids i will :)

we as a family make one almost every year. its usually my husband that does the insisting, last year we had two houses and failed miserably so my sister in law and i turned the parts into a pirate ship. we had gummy bear pirates and everything. it turned out quite interesting. not sure if we will do one this year though.

My husband and I make one every year and every year we swear its our last. I have noticed that they get smaller and smaller, even though we keep doing them.

I always do, but the lazy way. I get the kit so I don't have to buy and bake my own materials. I remember in elementary school we used to make them by placing graham crackers around a mini milk carton. That was easy, yet so cute.

I've always meant to but, I just never find the time. I had a Gingerbread House kit last year that simply went stale. Quite sad.

After making the one in the picture, I never want to make a gingerbread house again. It took forever and was very stressful. I am, however, glad I can cross "Make Gingerbread House" off of my to-do list for life.
