For the first time in 40 years, Heinz has redesigned its ketchup packet — and made it healthier to boot.
This morning, the company revealed a larger, more versatile condiment packet, which ketchup lovers can either tear off to squeeze like a traditional packet or peel off to dip. It holds three times as much as the old packet. The packaging innovation will be in most quick-service restaurants by the end of this year.
The company also introduced Simply Heinz Tomato Ketchup, a version made with sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup. The ketchup will be released in March, and by Summer, the entire core Heinz ketchup line will reduce sodium by 15 percent, making Heinz the lowest-sodium national ketchup.
I know this is ridiculous, but I consider this a Heinz breakthrough. I can't wait to tear open a packet that's big enough for more than three fries! Hopefully, the news will quiet ardent protest groups on Facebook, like Make Ketchup Packets Bigger and Abolish Ketchup Packets. Are you as excited as I am for this groundbreaking move?

I think this is fantastic news!
1I love the redesign, but the organic heinz is made with real sugar too. I like the lower sodium push though.
2I think both of these are great! I was just telling my fiance the last time we had those little ketchup packets "why don't they make these bigger?" It's not like anyone uses just one!
3Yippee! I've written several letter complaining about the packets many moons agos to no avail. Heinz rocks - I made at least 7 different catsup recipes this summer and nothing came close to what Heinz tastes like. They were good, but not Heinz.
4Wow! I have been dreaming of the day when ketchup packets are bigger since i was a wee one. Can't wait!
5Great news! I love the idea of being able to get lower-sodium ketchup without paying through the nose.
6Cool! I've always thought those packets were too small.
7I hate ketchup, but those packets look really cool. I can imagine how great it would be for alot of different condiments.
8Great news. I've been buying their organic ketchup for a while now and love it. Lowering the amount of sodium in all their products is a great initiative (as long as they don't replace it with more sugar or some other crap).
9yay!!!! i wish other companies would do this as well. i have HFCS!
10love the new packet
11I was wondering when they were going to make the packets like that. Awesome!
12ooops, i hate HFCS. not have it. haha
13I love Heniz ketchup and also feel larger packets will be met with support and glee, however your article indicates that in the Simply Heniz Ketchup, cane sugar is nutritionally superior to high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup may have a complicated-sounding name, but it’s simply a kind of corn sugar that is the same in terms of nutrition as cane sugar or honey with four calories per gram.

Disagree. High fructose corn syrup is evil. The problem with HFCS is that it is not processed by our bodies in the same way as other sugars and tends to be more lipogenic (promotes fat storage). Also, your body doesn’t readily recognize the calories ingested from HFCS, so it does nothing to satisfy your appetite.
