Restaurant Proposals: Love Them or Hate Them?

We've got weddings on the brain, and I want to hear how you feel about restaurant proposals. Proposals that are made in public aren't really my thing; I think asking someone to marry you is very intimate and should happen in private. Afterward though, a celebration at a restaurant is definitely fine! How do you feel about them? Would you be happy if your man popped the question while you were out to eat?

I work at a restaurant and a young couple got engaged a few months back. It was cute, but a little cheesy. My manager offered them a free dessert. He would have offered a round of drinks, but we guessed that they were a little too young for that :p Not ideal for me.

My fiance recently proposed to me at a restaurant, BUT it was our favorite place and he had worked with them days before to arrange a private room for two with candles, roses... the works. We were able to have our special moment and enjoyed a fantastic meal in the privacy of our own room, with the occasional visit from a congratulatory staff. That being said, i would not have appreciated a proposal in a restaurant full of people.

We are a restaurant and it is such an HONOR to have proposals in our place! We've served champagne glasses with rings in them, and many other novel approaches! We have couples who've gotten engaged and then married here, and celebrate their anniversary each year with us. From our perspective it is a GREAT thing and we LOVE 'em!

My hubby also proposed in a restaurant. I would have DIED of embarrassment had he made a big old scene and gotten down on one knee... he knew better. The restaurant was small, intimate and he popped the question privately. Afterwards we ordered champagne and toasted. Nobody around us even knew. It was great!

Lots of haters for the restaurant proposal! My hubby proposed to me in a restaurant and I thought it was wonderful. There was even a food reviewer there at the time, and we ended up in the paper. It was lovely!

It could only be worse if he puts the ring in her drink or in her food. Lame. That is a private moment, so unless he wanted to be lavish and reserve the entire restaurant just for them for an evening... pick a different plan.

I think it's a bit distracting for the other diners in the room. I wouldn't be against it, but it's not my favorite of proposal venues.

This is my nightmare proposal. Not because of the public nature, which i don't mind at all, but because it's so, so lacking in creativity.
