How to Safely Transport Food

If you are traveling with food this holiday season (I'm bringing a potato gratin to my uncle's house for Christmas dinner), place it on the floor in your car. While you may think it's safer to hold the food in your lap, it's actually easier to set the food carefully below the seat. It's less likely to spill and won't go flying after a sudden stop or wide turn. Cover the dish tightly with foil. Next secure a spot on the ground between your feet and drive safely!

Maybe try not to stack the containers, like they are stacked in the picture. I can't see that staying stacked in my car but maybe I just drive like a maniac.

Those textured silicone hot pads work great underneath a dish or a box to prevent slipping and sliding. They also protect the floor or trunk surface from being damaged by warm/hot dishes.

My mom would never eat or allow me to serve food transported on the floor of the car. Even if it were wrapped up and bagged, she'd be appalled. I think the trunk is really the safest...I have a small laundry hamper in my trunk that I put fragile edibles in while I'm traveling. And my mom thinks it's acceptable ;)

Definitely on the floor is more safe especially when the roads are slick.

Deviled Eggs...make the filling in a ziplock bag by adding all of the ingredients and squishing it all together, taste, adjust until right, but don't fill the eggs yet. Put the halves in a plastic container without too much room leftover, and take your serving dish. When you get there, arrange the halves on the serving dish, cut a corner from the ziplock baggie and pipe the contents into the halves. Garnish with your favorite topping (if you remembered to bring it, if not, everyone loves deviled eggs anyway). Enjoy

Forget about taking food when flying...I think soon we'll not be able to take anything. The floor of a car does have less movement if the car rocks, but I'd probably still keep it in place using my feet at least...not just leave it there. I usually stick it in my passenger seat. I have bucket seats on my car so it usually stays well and I can still reach over and stabilize it if necessary. Wouldn't be able to do that if it were on the floor on the passenger side and certainly would not put it on the floor on the driver side obviously.

if only there were easy ways to take food with you if you're flying, but in most cases you're not able to take stuff on the plane :(

For thanksgiving I just stuck my large casserole dish in a cloth ice chest (insulated bag) and put it on the floor. When we opened it up about an hour later, it was still hot! I was impressed.

The ziploc storage containers are very good to transport food. And then in a doubled shopping bag , to make caring easier.

I've got a box that's wedged between all the stuff in my trunk. I just pile things in there and stick towels in to keep it from sliding, or I line it with a trash bag if things could get messy.
