Simple Tip: Transport Baked Goods in Bakery Boxes

Unless you make and transport cupcakes on a very regular basis, you probably have no need for a bulky plastic cupcake carrier. However, on those occasions when cupcakes have to be carried from your kitchen to another location, do what I do and pick up a baking box. A local bakery, or even the baking section of your grocery store, has a large supply of these boxes in a variety of sizes. If you've developed a relationship with the employees, they'll most likely give you the box for free. Ask for a large, medium, or small box and you can safely transport cakes, cookies, or pies without ruining a beautiful frosting job. Does anyone else do this? What's your secret for taking baked goods from one place to another?

For larger amounts of cupcakes, I buy a sleeve of small plastic cups (the kind restaurants use to put sour cream or dressing in for "to go" orders) and hot glue them to a piece of cardboard that has been cut to fit inside an under bed storage box or shallow cardboard box. Then put a cupcake in each one and you don't have to worry about them tipping or sliding around in the car. :) I transported 300 to a wedding reception this way and it worked beautifully.

Great idea! I usually use a gift box leftover from Xmas. I always have a bunch of Gap ones, those work well =)

i love this idea, i'm definitely using it next time i need to transport pies or cakes! for cupcakes, the cookie sheet i have comes with a lid. I use a silpat on the sheet (so things don't slide) but the cupcakes on top, and put the lid on. there's just enough clearance for normal homemade cupcakes (not one with tons of frosting). it's perfect for transporting little treats.

I do this, too! I get the donut boxes from the bakery section of the grocery store to put cupcakes or cookies in. My grocery store doesn't charge for them (which is really nice of them) and they DO look really nice.

I have always done this! I usually fold a big rectangle of wax paper/parchment paper or thick tissue paper, so that a little lip comes up on two sides in the inside of the box. This helps hold your cupcakes in place without messing up the frosting AND it minimizes oil stains coming through on the bottom of the box. Then I criss-cross the box with a skinny satin ribbon and tie it in a small bow, like most bakeries do with string. When I lived in NYC, this made it easier to carry! P.S. You can also use white shirt boxes if you can't get your hands on a bakery box.

I just bought the bulky containers. My family has tons of get togethers and I'm always asked to bring the desserts. They're a pain to store, but I have the space so it's not impossible. I love this idea though for when you're gifting baked goods though!

I love this tip party! It is such a great idea, and really adds an extra special, professional looking touch to bringing in baked goods. Esp over a paper plate and saran wrap :)
