Food Network Brings Back Jeffrey Saad, Reveals Fall Lineup

If the prospect of Summer ending makes you sad, remember one of the perks of Fall: new TV lineups.

If the prospect of Summer ending makes you sad, remember one of the perks of Fall: new TV lineups. Not only is Bravo's Top Chef making its return on Wednesday, but Food Network's also debuting a handful of new shows this season.

When The Next Food Network Star came to a close, nearly a third of you were surprised by the outcome, and believed runner-up Jeffrey Saad should've taken top prize instead. In a less-than-unpredictable announcement, VP of Programming Bob Tuschman revealed that the Food Network has produced a mini-series of web episodes based on Jeffrey's original pilot, The Spice Smuggler.
One month from today, the network will debut Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin, the network's equivalent of the Travel Channel's hit Bizarre Foods. On the first two episodes, former Animal Planet adventure host Jeff Corwin will eat rancid butter in Morocco and dive for spiny urchin in Greece. Chopped, the food channel's answer to Top Chef, also returns with a four-week championship event that features previous Chopped champions returning to compete once more for the chance to claim the ultimate title and bank another $10,000. And on Iron Chef America, chef Michael Symon battles it out in Kitchen Stadium with a handful of culinary students.

Does the network's Fall lineup sound enticing to you? What do you think of Jeffrey's return to TV? Are you hoping that he, too, will have a future at the Food Network?

Alton Brown's in It For Three More Years

Alton Brown fans rejoice, he and the Food Network have just announced a new three-year deal.

Alton Brown fans rejoice, he and the Food Network have just announced a new three-year deal. This means there will be new seasons of Good Eats (yay!) and he will continue to host Iron Chef America. When asked about the deal, Alton had this to say:

Food Network is my home and I am staying home. I'm looking forward to producing more and varied shows with the network and am especially excited about Feasting on Waves, which will bring a whole new perspective to food.

That's right, AB will be back this Summer with a new version of his popular summer travel show Feasting on Asphalt, only this time he'll be in the Caribbean and will be Feasting on Waves. He'll be on the deck of a boat, diving, fishing, and doing whatever it takes to find good eats. They're paying him to do this? No wonder he's sticking around for three more years!

Did You Watch the Iron Chef Holiday Special?
Last night, as I was flipping through the channels, I landed on a bizarro-world version of Iron Chef America. It was an all-star holiday battle pitting Cat Cora and Paula Deen against Tyler Florence and Robert Irvine. Everyone was in great spirits and the holiday vibe was really ringing true. Did I mention that Tina Fey was one of the judges?

Did You Watch the Iron Chef Holiday Special?

Last night, as I was flipping through the channels, I landed on a bizzaro-world version of Iron Chef America.

Last night, as I was flipping through the channels, I landed on a bizzaro-world version of Iron Chef America. It was an all-star holiday battle pitting Cat Cora and Paula Deen against Tyler Florence and Robert Irvine. Everyone was in great spirits and the holiday vibe was really ringing true. Paula created a cheese fudge dipped in caramel and white chocolate, Tyler goofed his Bouche de Noel, sous chefs dressed as elves yelled "bite me," Robert had his finger bit by Paula, Cat proved she was an Iron Chef by keeping her cool, and Alton subtly mocked the entire thing. Did I mention that Tina Fey was one of the judges?

Did you guys watch it? If so what did you think? I thought it was a really hysterical episode, and if you missed out make sure you set your Tivo — it's on again tomorrow night.

Mario's Sticking with Food Network?

Looks like either the New York Post (and thus the rest of the food world and ABC News) was fed some false information, or Food Network has had a change of heart.

Looks like either the New York Post (and thus the rest of the food world and ABC News) was fed some false information, or Food Network has had a change of heart.

The folks at Edible TV and Newsday are both reporting that Mario's departure from Food Network was just a hot rumor.

"Mario is very much a part of Food Network" said Mark O'Connor, the network's vice president of public relations. "He is continuing to do a couple of episodes of 'Iron Chef America.'" O'Connor conceded that neither "Molto Mario" nor "Ciao America with Mario Batali" were in production but noted that the former program "still airs in repeats."

Mario's assistant and media maven, Pamela Lewy, has also confirmed that Mario is still with Food Network and that he is currently taping the next season of Iron Chef America. She also does not understand why the NY Post created the story.

Another Food Network source has also said that along with the new ICA episodes, Mario will also continue to film specials with the network.

I'm not totally sure what to make of it all, but I'm guessing it's stuff like this that makes Mario hate bloggers...
