This afternoon, over 20,000 fans packed the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Penn., to see the sixteenth annual Wing Bowl. Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, who was the reigning champion, held onto his title by chowing down on 241 chicken wings in 30 minutes. This was 14 more than his nearest competitor Patrick Bertoletti and 36 more than third place Bill "El Wingador" Simmons.
For his gastronomic feat, Chestnut — when did he obtain the nickname "Jaws"? I swear he didn't have it for the Fourth of July Hot Dog Contest — received a Toyota Tundra, a 2008 Black 883 Sportster motorcycle, a championship ring, and, of course, all the bragging rights.
So what do you folks think, could you eat that many wings in 30 minutes? Could you even eat half the amount? Also, can you believe the number of folks who attended? From the look of things, this place was packed!

Are they hot wings??? Eating 10 wings in an hour makes me feel about to pop.
1They buffalo wings with a special sauce that has more grease to make them slide easier. I completely forgot the wing bowl was today until I saw it on the news while I was getting ready for work this morning. It's funny how big this competition has gotten in the past several years. Kind of like Punxsutawney Phil on Groundhog Day.
2what does snotting a wing mean???
3lol Joey Chestnut, hometown hero of San Jose, CA! He got his start at a taqueria over here called Iguanas; he ate their special burritozilla (5 pound burrito!) in about 4 minutes.
4Why is it the skinnier men and women always win these things? Amazing!
5Whoo! San Jose native here, proud (and jealous he gets away with eating like that!)
6Good lord...
7Oh my..our men..good grief
8It is technically illegal to "scarf and barf" in the world of competitive eating, but a lot of players do it. Also most players don't normally eat this way. I had a friend do an eating contest once, she could put away food like no other. I think it's just gross to watch these though! Too much food!
9GROSS.
10i went to wingbowl like three years ago when i was in college. it was completely insane and something i would NEVER do again. that same week i went to groundhog's day in punxatawny...so i feel like it was worth the experience
11the real wing festival is held in buffalo over labor day weekend, check it out

12Wow, I don't think I've ever been able to eat more than 8 wings or so in one sitting!
13I had no idea this was national news. I thought this was just a local Philly thing.
I have friends that go to this every year. I haven't made it yet, though.
14my hiney hurts just thinking about all those wings...
15this is crazy!
