Let's Dish: What Are You Having For Christmas Dinner?

Merry Christmas! I hope that you're relaxing somewhere warm and cozy on this festive Winter day. Since food plays such a monumental part in Christmas, I want to know what you're feasting on today. I'll be enjoying a roasted lamb loin, brussels sprouts, and a gingerbread trifle for dessert. What about you: will you be enjoying a longtime tradition, or trying out something new?

i'll be doing the cooking (always do, always the same thing! :) ) starters: homemade prawn cocktail and home made soup. main: roast turkey (roast with lemons, onions, butter, rosemary, thyme, bacon, salt n pepper) gammon joint (with honey and grain mustard glaze) beef joint. traditional pork sage and onion stuffing and lemon and herb stuffing. tiny sausages wrapped in streaky bacon. potatoes roasted with goose fat, rosemary and garlic. mashed potatoes with lots of butter and cream. maple roasted parsnips. carrots cooked with honey, butter and thyme (everyones fav dish of mine! :) ) brussel sprouts with butter and black pepper. turkey gravy cranberry sauce and, at my daughters request, yorkshire puddings and apple sauce!?! pudding: trifles, toffee cheesecake (no one really likes xmas pud, these are fav's) then, cheeses: stilton, smoked chedder, wenslydale with cranberries, a mild goats cheese and biscuits. there will also be plenty mince pies n choc's doing the rounds! well...... it is xmas!!!!!!!

i'm always challenged during xmas since we go to my fiance's family's house (seeing as how i'm jewish and we don't celebrate the holiday)...and this year was no different. we went to his aunts and they had the usual..pork and chicken and things like that which i don't eat...but they did make mac n cheese for me since i'm a veggie - and we had veggies and potato casseroles and things like that. it's always nice to be in TX to have their style of cooking - it just means that the pounds come on and on

My family has a traditional Norwegian Christmas dinner every year: Ribbe (a pork roast with the rind attached), Tyttebær sauce (lingonberries--very much like cranberry sauce), surkål and rødkål (2 types of saurkraut-type cabbage, one white and one red), boiled potatoes, pea stew, meatballs, and white sausage (I can't remember the actual name of this stuff, but I'm not a fan!). To wash it all down, you must have plenty of aquavit! For dessert, we usually have riskrem (rice cream, served with a raspberry sauce), but this year we did some other traditional Norwegian dessert, and I made a gingerbread icebox cake I found in last year's Martha Stewart. Everything was delicious as always!

On Christmas Eve we had bacon crusted pork roast, three cheese macaroni and cheese, and roasted broccoli. The dessert was the best part though: chocolate ginger cake with bourbon glaze and homemade eggnog ice cream. On Christmas morning we had a Italian sausage, spinach, and red pepper strata (the one from the December Bon Appétit) and it was so delicious. Christmas night at the family gathering we had tri-tip, potato gratin, two salads, and balsamic glazed onions.

We had the traditional Portuguese Christmas dinner on the Eve. It consisted of cod fish, steamed veggies (broccoli, carrots, spinach), boiled potatoes.Ob Christmas Day my mom decided to change it up and she made everyone's favourites. Shrimp soup to start (my favourite), we had 3 entrees turkey with all the trimmings (dad's favourite), baked ham with a pineapple sauce (my sister's favourite) and roast beef with gravy (my mom's favourite). The sides consisted of tossed salad, coleslaw, steamed veggies (carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, corn, green beans) baked potatoes, rice and I'm not even going to start on the desserts.I love Christmas for two reasons one being that the entire family gets together and even though there is a lot of commotion it is super fun to have 50 plus people all under the same roof having fun just being around one another and the other reason is the delicious food.I can't wait until next year because it will be my turn to make Christmas dinner.. hopefully the hubby will be back in time to help!

We did a Christmas of hors d'ouevres (don't think I spelled that right)and desserts. Each of us brought 2-3 things, some hot some cold, and it was a feast! Cheeses and French bread, egg and chicken salad, shrimp cocktail, crudites, Italian meatballs, chicken wings, puff pastries, scallops with bacon, Cornish Pasties, ....everything was delicious! Brownies, cookies, ice cream, gingerbread. Very untraditional and really wonderful.

We had our traditional Christmas meal- lasagna. However, this year since I no longer eat dairy and have a vegan sister, we had prepared both a meat-lovers lasagna, and a vegan lasagna. I must say the vegan lasagna was so yummy, you would never there wasn't real cheese in it!

We always have a typical English Christmas roast dinner! It was lamb this year, although as a vegetarian I had a stuffed onion, then roast potatoes, parsnips, yorkshire puddings, brussels sprouts, beans, carrots with cinnamon and brown sugar, asparagus, lots of gravy. Then trifle for afters!

For the Eve my daughter made a scrumptious bone in pork loin w/ mac and four cheese. At the big fam gathering today it was a BBQ tri tip with chimichurri.

Turkey, cranberry sauce, roasted root vegetables and sauteéd brussels sprouts. My dad bought a pumpkin pie too but I didn't eat any.

We just ate and I'm STUFFED! :hohoho: I made a very simple dinner of my fried shrimp, steamed broccoli with butter sauce, garlic-cheese-parsley biscuits, sparkling apple cider sugar cookies for dessert. We enjoyed it and enjoyed our conversation even more! Merry Christmas everyone!

We decided to do a Feast of the 7 Fishes type of dinner for Christmas Eve. We started off with Kumamoto and Blue Point Oysters on the half shell, buckwheat blinis with creme fraiche and caviar, and grilled clams with garlic butter sauce. For the main course we did a Seafood Risotto with sole, squid, scallops and shrimp. And to top it all off - milk and cookies! I tried two Martha Stewart recipes - the chewy chocolate gingerbread and cowboy cookies.A very yummy dinner, but man were we stuffed.

We have the same thing every year--my Mom makes almost everything and any attempts to change it up are met with a deep frown. We have turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (my fav), apple salad (simply lettuce and apples), green bean casserole, cranberry sauce (my contribution, barefoot contessa's recipe), and a pumpkin cheesecake.

I worked both yesterday and today - 7am - 7pm, so no cooking for me. I'm supposed to go to my brother-in-law's after work - hope they'll have some leftovers to feed me because I will be HUNGRY! :rotfl: So, I don't know ... it will be a surprise. On the plus side, one of my co-workers had his wife bring us some fried oysters earlier, YUM!

We've been snowed in so Christmas Eve was yummy but simple - roast chicken, baked potatoes, roasted broccoli and I made the Crab Artichoke dip mentioned on YUMsugar but had to substitute fresh OR baby shrimp. Fresh baguette toasts from the bakery and salad. I also made Russian Tea Cakes and a Vanilla Cranberry Crumb Cake for dessert. Today, I've got a Chile Verde cooking slowly in the oven. We'll have with black beans and rice. This AM we had French toast made from leftover baguette.

I'm making filet mignon with a pinot noir red wine reduction, a potato gratin with gruyere and creme fraiche, sauteed broccolini with garlic, an arugula salad with homemade candied walnuts, dried cranberries, gorgonzola crumbles with a sherry wine vinaigrette and La Bete Noire with a Champagne creme anglaise. :)

I haven't decided yet. I'm either having pizza for lunch or dinner.. Probably have a sweet potato and some of my mom's succotash and pie. Nothing too big.

We are going very non-traditional this year. BBQ pulled pork sandwiches on crusty bread, homemade creamy coleslaw, baked beans, sweet corn, and the star of the show, Mom's homemade apple pie! I crap you not, her crust nearly falls apart at the slightest touch of a fork! :drool:
