Let's Dish: What's the Grossest Thing You've Found in Food?

Last Friday, YumSugar discovered a random strand of blue thread in her salad. It was disgustingly attached to a piece of feta cheese. We got to talking about gross things we've come across in restaurant food. Whether it's as simple as a piece of hair or as gag inducing as a rat, we've all had bad experiences with finding things in our food. It's time for you to spill the beans: what's the grossest thing you've come across?

when my daughter was little she made instant oatmeal and started eating it. she said it was moving, i did'nt believe her ..so i checked it out...it WAS moving....the oatmeal was real old( local store) like..15 years past good...the things that were floating and moving were " BO-WEAVELS" she has NEVER had an kind of oatmeal since!

My brother found a tooth in his hamburger at Chili's once. Pretty gross. How about bacon on a veggie sandwich when you do not eat bacon? That was pretty nasty.

oh. my . gawd . I couldn't even finish reading these! BARF!! I've had a nat (or nat-like bug) in my coffee at a restaurant, and hair in my food... I still gag about that because I had actually taken a bite and had to pull the hair from my mouth.. ughh GAG... But I can't say for sure whether it was my hair or not lol... I have a bit of a mess on top of my head most of the time hah

All these stories are just horrible and yet hilarious. Since I'm the cook in my house, sometimes some of my head hair gets in what I'm cooking. I found some blue strings in a tortilla when I was heating it but thankfully never found anything disturbingly disgusting in my food. I'm usually watchful of what I'm eating, I stir it around or cut it up before I dig in.

-feathers on chicken wings from high rated local food place and not just one or two...i think i bulled off 8 from 2 wings....it astonishes me that after hearing that my mom & step dad still eat there :X -rubber band from braces in my burger from burger king. -COLOR PELLETS in mcdonalds burger...its very obvious they dye their meat ugh. -maggots in my ramen noodles I honestly didnt eat for days after those incidents. haha so gross. I usually cook for myself now. with organic food not boxed.

A cockroach stuck underneath a ha-gao at dimsum in Chinatown. We reported it to the manager, she said sorry and did nothing else about it.

I once found a curly hair baked into the cheese of my pizza, about the same time that my friends enjoying the same pizza found similar hairs. There was like a plague of curly hairs in the cheese. Needless to say, we immediately ditched the pizza.

I wasn't at a restaraunt, but rather at my own house, I accidentally ate moldy salsa. I didn't realize what I'd done until I went to throw it away and there was mold all over the inside of the lid. Worse yet, I'm allergic to penicillin, so I had to call poison control.

I may puke while writing this but.....I got a mexican pizza from Taco Bell and found a fingernail clipping mixed in with the beans. The terrible thing about it was that I had eaten more than half of it. When I called customer service, the guy was speechless he didn't even know what to say.

A fly in my strawberry pie. It was coated in a blob of the red filling on the empty plate after I was already finished. :(

I've found hair in my food but I worked at a restaurant that was remodeling and there was 2 screws and a chunk of wood in a customers food, I think it was some kind of pasta dish, how disgusting! He was with a group of like 15 people who then all got their meals free and didn't tip the waitress I felt so bad for her but I know if I found all that in my food I'd be disgusted!

I once found a live beetle in the lettuce of my sandwich at Au Bon Pain. =( I expected more from that chain. I also had a friend find a dead moth in his soup at a Chinese restaurant, and when he pointed it out, they tried to convince him it was a vegetable and part of the soup!!! Ridiculous.

One time I found a small rock in a frozen burrito. I shot them an email and they sent me 2 coupons for free products. Another time my cousin, his gf and I got some food from Brookfields and there was a dead fly in the mashed potatoes. His gf called to complain and they wanted us to drive all of the way back to the restaurant and they would give us a new meal. We said hell no and threw out the potatoes.

At least insects in the food means it may still be fresh. In a former life I was a fire inspector and we would inspect kitchens as part of our detail....it is amazing that we have all not died of food poisoning considering the amount of grease and dirt that are hanging around restaurant grills. Maybe 10% of kitchens were really clean.

I had boogers on my bagel - on more than one occasion. It was disgusting, I almost barfed. Thankfully the lady (who I think was the one with the snot problem) got fired, or she left. Either way, I feel safe about eating at Noah's Bagels again.

"That, and the Subway ladies boob dragging across my sub while she reached for the olives" Mesayme-there was an employee at the Subway near me that had HUGE, I mean HUUUUGE boobies...and she'd use them as a shelf to help roll up the sandwiches!! It pretty much determined if I was going to eat at Subway that day or not ;)

oh... forgot about the lime green worm in my broccoli florets! After I saw the first one, I really started checking...they are there ALL the TIME! now I chop them up very carefully.
