Locavore
Someone whose diet consists of food grown or produced within an area most commonly bound by a 100-mile radius of their home. Locavores usually shun large supermarket chains, opting for farmer's markets and local gardens instead. It is also a current trend for many high-end restaurants as well.
Interesting tidbit — this word was just declared Oxford American Dictionary's 2007 Word of the Year. It was coined in 2005 by a group of four women from San Francisco.
It's also sometimes spelled localvores.

I hear the hardest part is finding salt.
1Great concept.
2I could never do that...
3And the concept was launched/publicized by four very cool women right here in the Bay Area.
4Okay, I went down to the local wednesday night farmers market downtown, with every intention of buying items that were locally grown. I was there for two seconds and i realized that the place had been over run with the homeless. The vendors were nice, but even they were complaining about the ...smell. So that ends that. I even complained to the city planning, and they said they cant do anything about it.
I got some of the farmers numbers, so i am going to go get some mushrooms and other veggies, but have to go to the source
5Campbell and Mountain View have some very good farmer's markets on Sundays. There's also a lil market over off San Antonio and California that I think has locally grown produce. TI's good to live in the Bay area being close to both the cities and the famlands. Salinas (the salad bowl of the world) is only an hours drive from me.
6This is easier to do if you live where a variety of food grows.
