Mars to Stop Selling King-Size Candy Bars

Say Goodbye to the Reign of King-Size Candy Bars

Mars Inc., candy-maker and Willy Wonka to your favorite checkout counter candy bars, has announced it will stop selling any candy over 250 calories by the end of 2013. This includes king-size editions of favorites, such as Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, M&M's, 3 Musketeers, Dove, Mars, and Galaxy.

Although there's speculation that this move is financially motivated, Mars maintains it's a movement towards a healthier eating effort: "Mars has a broad-based commitment to health and nutrition, and this includes a number of global initiatives," the company said.

It's hard to know whether this'll make a difference, considering studies show portion-controlled packs might actually make people eat more. Will you be stocking up on king-size candy?

Please, if this company was concerned about health and nutrition, they would be selling granola, not candy bars. They'll make more money when people who want a larger quantity have to buy multiple smaller packages. I have nothing against candy, but this candy-company-cares-about-your-health nonsense is insulting.

amber512, I have to agree with the temptation to keep eating tiny ones! I am the first to question whether those "portion-controlled" sizes actually work. #justsayin

That's a bummer! I like buying King size versions because they often come in two pieces that are smaller and lower in calories than a normal size bar. I can get my fix for less $$ even. I'd buy a bag of fun-size ones, but they aren't quite big enough to fulfill my cravings and it'd be way too tempting to keep eating!
