Chestnuts contain twice as much starch as potatoes, but they're low in fat, high in fiber, and possess a sweet, nutty flavor that pairs well with the slight bitterness of caramelized brussels sprouts. Sing along to Nat King Cole's "Christmas Song" as you toss already-roasted whole chestnuts into the simmer. Or, go the completely authentic route, buying fresh kernels and roasting them yourself. Yesterday, I simmered the chicken in a cacciatore sauce of tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and herbs, and tonight I'm using another one to make a straightforward roast that can be shredded into salads, soups, and pastas, or simply enjoyed on its own.

Convenient, healthy, affordable, and delectable, this staple protein comes through time and time again. Today, I'm searing all-purpose breasts in a hot skillet, then cooking them in the oven for a golden brown and crispy skin. I'll serve the chicken with a zippy mustard sauce. Craving chicken yet? Home Depot and Martha Stewart Living have announced a plan to develop an exclusive Martha Stewart Living line of home improvement products including outdoor living, home organization, and home décor items for Home Depot's stores. Like Martha's other products, you can expect them to be traditionally stylish and good quality, but they will also be affordable. Both design teams are working side by side to create a collection that makes coordinating décor and design during home improvement projects easy. You can look for the line's outdoor living products, such as patio dining sets ($399-1,999), in stores beginning in January 2010, followed by home organization items, such as closet organization systems, in February.
It's no surprise to see Martha Stewart expanding her brand to another store — she's practically on her way to world domination. But it is curious to see Home Depot taking on a designer name. Designer capsule collections is something we've seen with other big retailers like Target, Macy's, Rooms to Go, and HSN, but it's a first to see Home Depot headed in that direction. It's also exciting! Especially since Home Depot is a national brand, and a one-stop shop for home improvement products, it will be a treat to find some stylish décor there.
In less time than it takes to watch the evening news, I'll be eating alfresco with this one-platter meal, which calls for just six commonplace ingredients. It'll be exactly the dining departure that I need so I can fully appreciate tomorrow's barbecue spread! See the ultrasimple recipe when you read more
Since my steak and pineapple salad was so well-received, I'm lighting up the coals for another salad tonight. Warm, sizzling sirloin sliced against the grain, served with smoky onion wedges and a cilantro-jalapeño vinaigrette. What's not to like? Get jazzed for dinner tonight
