McDonald's Dollar Menu Here to Stay

Top fast food chain McDonald's announced its third-quarter earnings today, and made reassurances that it would continue its efforts to be "recession-resistant."

The corporation made sure to squash swirling rumors that its dollar menu may become a thing of the past. There will, in fact, still be a dollar menu. "We advertised it heavily in September," said COO Ralph Alvarez. "We wouldn't have done that if we were going to be walking away from it."

McDonald's has, however, been testing the menu's key item, the double cheeseburger, at higher prices and with one piece of cheese rather than two, as a result of the rising commodity costs. "We expect to have a decision [on the double cheeseburger] soon," said CEO Jim Skinner. Will you be watching to see what's on the new dollar menu?

The original big burger at McDoanlds was the McDouble, with and without cheese. Order McDouble Hamburger now and its no cheese and One dollar. A very unique taste over the Dubcheese, now 1.29 and up.I love Dubcheese, but prefer the taste of the McDouble Ham. (I worked in McDonalds in the 60's)

I think that if they are going to do that to the double cheeseburger, they should change the name of it to "Double Burger With Cheese." They can't just take away a piece of cheese!

well i do think that it's important to keep the dollar menu intact cause that's truly how a lot of people purchase from fast food restaurants...but i can understand how they are looking to change things with it. i think that in a lot of cities there are dollar menu items that are $1.29 so i wonder if they will start to put some of the more complex items up to that price and then leave others at the dollar. to be honest, you can pretty much buy some great stuff at a low cost from the main menu itself, but people just don't always take the time to notice that.

I never eat fast food anymore, but I loved McDonald's in college!

I haven't been to McDonald's in months. That's not to say that I never eat fast food, but it's usually always Taco Bell. I will say that in college, that $ menu, and in particular the double cheeseburger, was my best friend on nights when there was no food in the fridge and I was low on dough.

Isn't it funny that a stock footage picture of the restaurant has a middle aged, overweight white couple predominantly pictured? Hmmm...

DO NOT MESS WITH MY DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER MCDONALDS I AM WARNING YOU. why why why would they do that to us? it HAS to be the top selling dollar menu item. NO less cheese, and no higher prices. I am putting my foot down.
