The indulgent world of haute cuisine just got a little more luxurious: Yesterday the Wall Street Burger Joint started serving a $175 hamburger. What makes it so special is the use of high end ingredients such as kobe beef, foie gras, exotic mushrooms, and golden truffle mayonnaise. The entire burger is topped with a generous dusting of gold flakes.
While the creation of absurdly expensive dishes is nothing new, I find it interesting that this burger's debut happens to be in the middle of an international food crisis. I couldn't afford to taste this burger myself, but if dining with a high roller, I would definitely indulge in this extreme excessiveness. I might even ask the chef to add imported aged cheddar! If you're going to go over the top, might as well do it in style. Still, there is something as too much. What do you think about this burger? Is it overly outrageous or divinely fabulous?

Fat Face
That's crazy.
1Thats absolutely ridiculous! I know plenty of places in NYC that serve amazing burgers that cost a mere fraction of that really expensive-who-knows-if-its-really-going-to-satisfy-your-taste-buds burger!
2It's the gold flakes that takes it out of the realm of kind of stupid and into what the hell were they thinking?
3Can I pay per bite?
The fries on the side look yummy.
But the burger could definitely be better plated than that. That limp looking salad just doesn't look too appetizing.
4You'll think I'm crazy, but I actually might splurge on something like this. I'm a HUGE burger fan, a foodie, and I'd much rather blow $200 on this than a purse.
5I think there's a difference between "expensive in order to use the best ingredients and make it taste as fantastic as possible" and "expensive mostly to be ostentatious".
I doubt gold flakes makes things taste better, so this would have to be the latter.
6ridiculous. especially in light of the economy, and what is going on in the world. i agree with looseseal, this is an attempt at being ostentatious...the best burger i had only cost a couple bucks doubt this would measure up and unlike evildorkgirl, i'd rather use $175 on something substantial rather than something that will just end up in the toilet. sorry to sound crass....
7This is like the Birkin bag of hamburgers. Way too extravegant for me! And burgers are my thing too!
8Ridiculous.
9i saw some wedding cake dusted with gold flakes and was surprised. i guess that's the new highend style. it can't add taste, so it's just for show i guess. seems like it wouldn't be good for you to eat gold.
10That would mean way more dishes. Think I'll stick to In n Out.
11There's a CNN. com article about a 3- year-old girl in Ethiopia who weighs 10 pounds and is expected to starve to death. The article said there are 120,000 more like her.
Meanwhile, Americans are eating $175 burgers dusted with gold flakes. The cost of that burger alone could feed probably feed her for months.
12Yeah I just don't get the dusting of gold flakes trend. I mean, it was cool taking shots of Goldschlager when I was in high school, but I think I've outgrown that...
13Honestly, i was disappointed I didn't see this on here yesterday. Slackers
14Um there is liquor that has gold flakes and it doesn't cost an insane amount of money. I think they are just charging that much cause they can. If I could make burgers and charge that much and someone would pay for them.........damn right!
15Brittneylb, your comment is really sobering and totally hits the nail on the head.
16but Daniel Bolud already makes a burger with truffles and foie gras. It costs a lot, but less than that. Gold flakes don't taste like anything, because gold is completely inert. If the gold isn't pure it would taste like other metals. Ooooh yum.
17Are gold flakes ok for your digestive system?
Anyways, last night I was at a place that had a $150 BEER on the menu...
18Ridiculous! Completely agree that it is insane to pay that much money for a burger when other ppl have nothing to eat. Gold flakes? You gotta be kidding me...!
19were the gold flakes really necessary?
20Vinnie, is *any* of it really necessary?
21I think it's sort of a joke. It's named after a fictional blogger whose website is a tongue-in-cheek look at the most expensive things in Los Angeles and New York. I'm not sure they really expect anyone to order it, and if someone did, they'd probably laugh at that person behind his/her back.
22Thats a lot of money
23A lot of money for something that sounds gross (to me anyway)
24It's ridiculous - there's a credit crunch going on so I doubt this will appeal to the rich folks who can actually afford this as they'll be likely be ahem (pardon the pun), tightening their belts.
25I like the $200 burger idea better -- that all the proceeds go to charity. You know somewhere, high rollers would pay for something like this. They might as well give back to the community at the same time. It does sound kind of yummy though; if they gave the proceeds to a good charity, and I was rollin in the dough, I would definitely buy this burger.
26That looks good...mmmm. A little crazy though...
