If you've been watching season two of The Next Iron Chef, then you already know that last night, a new Iron Chef was crowned. The two finalists — New York's Jehangir Mehta and Philadelphia's Jose Garces — flew back to Manhattan after a whirlwind trip in Tokyo to compete in Kitchen Stadium for the final showdown. Get the scoop (warning: spoilers ahead!) when you read more.
The two chefs were asked to prepare five dishes that exemplify the melting pot of American cuisine. Although the judges' table had plenty of high praise for Mehta — Anya Fernald thought he showed a "glimpse at greatness" — it was ultimately Garces who took home the title, getting high marks for his technical execution.
Despite the fact that Garces won, I'm left feeling a little wary of whether either cheftestant is truly ready to take on Iron Chef challenges. After all, Jeffrey Steingarten declared he wouldn't pay for any of the food Garces offered up in Kitchen Stadium — and Mehta served the judges a barely-cooked pork burger. Did you tune in to watch the season finale? Did the right person win?

YAY!!! I watched the first half of the competition this morning, but am SO happy Garces won! Mehta really bothered me throughout the competition with his hourdish ways, like the trip to the Japanese market. And who cares what Jeffrey Steingarten says, I liked the other 2 judges better, and they always put him in his place.
1Disappointing, I agree, none of these cheftestants have what it takes to be on Iron Chef, i'm really not looking forward to watching any of his battles.
2I stopped watching when the Applemen was sent home. I thought he was the best since the judges almost always liked his food and even said several times they would pay to have it again.
3I am glad Garces won, I expect him to. All chefs were great, but the cool Garces took the priz, and he deserved it. I remember him in a challenge with Bobby Flay, and Garces won !! how could he not win now. I am happy for him !!
4Having been to several of Garces' restaurants and having some Philly pride, I was thrilled that he won. He's an amazing chef.
5I didn't like Garces at all - when his food wasn't cooked properly throughout the challenges he had lied to the judges when they confronted about the issues.
6Happy Chef Garces won and I do not care what JS has to say, he doesn't chew or pay for my food and he's the not Chief Tastebud!
7Oh kittykat83 I love your furry friend's outfit, so chic!
8This was one of the hardest competitions I have seen on Iron Chef. They had to cook racks which take FOREVER and then they had to tell a story and be edgy? I thought what Jeffrey Steingarten said was ridiculous. Jose has 5 restaurant —where people pay to eat his food. I have eaten Jose's food many times and he is very talented not to mention a great personality too. I fell that he will be a great asset to the Iron Chefs. I look forward to his challenges and contributions on the food network. Here's some interesting trivia..Iron Chef Morimoto teamed up with restauranteur Stephen Starr to open his first restaurant in Philadelphia. Jose moved to Philadelphia to work for Stephen Starr and open up a restaurant with him as well before opening 5 of his own!
