Party Foul: Mixing Wines

I recently attended an event with CasaSugar; at the bar she ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio. The bartender filled her glass halfway with the last of an open bottle. Needing more wine to fill her glass, he quickly grabbed an unopened bottle and went about twisting a corkscrew. However, he failed to look at the bottle and topped her half full glass of Pinot Grigio with Riesling! I was shocked; mixing wine varieties is NOT okay and if a bartender or waiter does this to you, call them out and send the wine back.

What do you think? Has this ever happened to you? What party fouls have you witnessed a bartender make?

I would say something and ask for another glass. Wine should not be mixed like that and a bartender/server of all people should know that!

That was an unfortunate experience for me and the wine "mixed drink" was far from delicious. I hope that bartender learned his lesson, but at least the drink was free!

one more point - for those not into wine - it would be like ordering a jack and coke, and the bartender filling half the glass with jack and the other half with vodka. Come on. Gross.

Oh my gosh that's disgusting! I hope casa sent it back. What a lack of care on the bartenders part. It's the same as going to a restaurant and ordering a bottle of wine off their list and it saying "2004" and they bring you a "2005." As if the year doesn't matter. Geez. I realize not everyone is into wine and knows the differences, but a restaurant and bartender should at least care about that. I think.

I would definitely ask the bartender not to do that. When I order wine, I specifically state Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio or Cabernet. Wines all have different tastes and mixing different types together may not be right for all tastebuds.

In london alot of places 'house wines' are actually left over bottles all mxixed together.. hence the lack of description on the menu. If it was someones party I woouldnt say anything but in a bar I deffinately would.
