Piglets Salt and Pepper Holders: Love It or Hate It?

Like Rachael Ray's garbage bowl, the shape and form of these salt and pepper shakers ($19.95) are instantly recognizable thanks to celebrity chef Nigella Lawson. On her shows, Lawson uses a variety of whimsical and unique cooking tools, such as her mezzaluna or handle-less salad tongs. Naturally all of these products are available to the public at the Food Network store.

I like how they're holders rather than shakers, but can't help but wonder if it's all a marketing scheme. Does Nigella really use a similar product in her home? Thoughts?

No no and no. I would have a mess all over the place. AND I would have to keep refilling the salt because I use half a pound of it in everything I eat. Plus, I would rather not have people's grubby hands soiling my condiments. Maybe it's just me.

i'm undecided about this actually. i like the idea for the salt but i'm not sure that it makes the most sense for pepper...

I have one that is similar and have found it very useful in the kitchen. The salt hasn't dried out although I've had it in there for a while, and my friends have all had the same positive reviews about it. But in terms of aesthetics, I think it could be bumped up a notch.

I kinda prefer the salt pig that Alton Brown uses...although it's more of a container than a true salt pig...

I have a salt pig, and I love it! It works so well while cooking, and I think these are adorable! I already have the NL egg shaped mixing bowls and some measuring cups, so I NEED these! Thanks so much for posting!!

I already use a salt "pig" similar to this and love it for keeping coarse salt handy. I haven't had any problems with humidity affecting the salt like some posters mentioned, and I live in the deep south where it is extremely humid.

I love them. There are a few dishes I serve with little piles of salt for sprinkling, instead of salt shakers, so I could see these coming in handy. I prefer sprinkling to shaking myself.

I can't say they'd end up with salt and pepper in them, but I love the concept and would prolly love them in a black or steel grey, and I'd put little candies in them that wouldn't absorb humidity especially since I'm southern girl.

its cute but nothing I have to have. The overall design isn't something I would like, I don't like it all out in the open.

Idea is fine, design is not and I agree you need a salt box with a lid and my pepper grinder works just fine.

As someone who's been avidly searching for the perfect salt cellar to have during my cooking, I kinda love them. I don't know if I'm in love with their egg design, but the idea is pretty cool.

I think Nigella does use some of the products she's designed in her home. Before I knew who she was, I stumbled upon her line of cooking tools. At the time, it was hard to find any of her stuff in the US - it had to be ordered from the UK. She had a wonderful cup and saucer set that I was searching for, and I came across an article of how she had come up with the designs. I love the piglets, but like psychobabble I'm pretty sure I would make a mess with them.
