Absolutely yes! Tuna taste and salt varies by the mfg, but I only buy the water packs and drain them, so no biggie. The WalMart store brand tuna is good if you are going to make tuna salad (adding seasonings and dressings) with it. We also use canned sardines (yummo with crackers - going to try someone else's comment about drizzling red wine vinegar on them!) and have used canned anchovies a few times. We use the sealed foil-like bagged smoked oysters. They are pretty good, not mushy. On the fake seafood (surimi), I love this stuff! I can eat it right out of the package. For the poster who could not find it, check your grocery stores that offer seafood. It is "fake", but they would know where it is. Our WalMart also carries it. Note that freezing it will make it a little rubbery, so try to use it from the refrigerated state. It goes great with linguini noodles, white sauce and peas. It is good in salads too. Thank goodness we just made tuna salad, or I'd be really hungry right now! Ha!

What's wrong with buying canned fish??? I love canned fish... I buy mine from VITAL CHOICE SEAFOOD DOT COM! I especially love ventresca tuna (tuna belly) and sardines in spicy olive oil... oh and how can I forget how much I love mackerel!

Hey jelibeann - I love fake krab and it's as versatile as tuna. It's just fish made fun!Hubby eats it right out the package and it's great with buttered garlic pasta for a quick dinner.

definitely tuna, but otherwise i'm pretty against canned foods...however, i recently make a crab bisque that i had trouble finding imitation crab for (i know, i know...it's gross, but i love it anyway) and wound up "settling" for canned crab, which turned out to be great

I love canned tuna. I also love salmon for salmon patties but I buy the flavor pack, never the can because the can has those little round bones you have to pick out, eww!

I'll go for tuna in water, sardines and salmon but that's about it.

i definitely do the tuna in water... i was mortified when dr. oz was pushing for canned smoked oysters be a part of a healthy snack. they were swimming in cottonseed oil (look it up to get the details which aren't pretty... manufactured oil? i don't think so)... and the oysters were mushy.i purchased two cans and immediately threw the both away.

I find that the fishiness is way intensified, probably thanks to the salt.

Yes! We go to the OR coast twice a year and stock up on lots of canned fish. One of my fave canneries is in Gold Beach. And of course good ol' tuna is always in the pantry. Not a fan of canned crab cause I'm a SF bay area girl, but I have used it when camping for crab and cheese quesadillas and it's pretty good in the forest.

I buy canned tuna all the time. It's cheap and nutritious and it helps me get all my protein and omega 3's.

Tuna, salmon, sardines, and crab meat are my go-to canned fish items. Tasty!

Yes! I'll buy and consume the usual suspects (tuna, anchovies, sardines). Also been known to enjoy some of the lesser-known ones. I like canned smoked oysters or clams. They're great for making appetizers and dips.

Spanish tuna is fantastic....the canned crab at Costco is pretty good.

Yes however it does depend on the type of fish. Tuna, sardines, kippers, anchovy. Saw a No Reservations w/ A. Bourdin where he dined on Spanish canned seafood that he said was the best seafood he'd ever had and was expensive as hell. Like $500 or more a can. I'd like to try some of those.
