It's easier after work and classes to just throw together some greens and other pre-cut vegs and relax in front of the tv, rather than make a whole big meal. In the summer, in my family, if we can't eat it with our hands, we really don't eat it.

Every single day I eat HUGE HUGE salads... warm, cold... warm & cold together - raw, cooked - the whole SHEBANG! ha ha!

I simply love salads, to the point where I saladify everything I eat - eg I had some extra chilli left over, and just substituted the rice for a bowl of baby spinach leaves and rocket; same if I have some leftover pasta sauce etc I'll just substitute the pasta for salad leaves. I reckon it's because I like crunchy or "acoustic" foods, so I prefer to eat raw, crunchy stuff even if the cooked version may be healthier

I usually don't like salads unless they're loaded up with unhealthy stuff, but I definitely eat more in the summer. Last night, though, I made a "hot" salad that will be a go-to dish for me. I sauteed some garlic in olive oil, added a handful of golden raisins, then tore up a head of lettuce. I tossed it all around, then covered the pan to let the greens wilt. After several minutes I took the lid off and let the water cook off. Added a splash of balsamic vinegar and a dash of salt, and it was a great cold-weather way for me to add leafy greens to my meal.

I eat salads year-round. I don't care that lettuce/veggies are more expensive in the wintertime; I'm willing to spend that money on decent food for my body. I'll cut back on buying new clothes or something.

I eat salads all year round. I don't think I've ever thought about eating fewer salads in the winter than summer.

I live in east central Illinois, in a small town with only one grocery store. The nearest 'big town' is 25 miles away, and I'm not driving there just for lettuce. I've found that the hearts, when they're a decent price, last longer and stay fresher than a large head, so that's why I usually get them. I KNOW, now that the cost is prohibitive I am craving them!

Where are you shopping Anon 3?! That's pretty crazy. I go to local, tiny grocers and their stuff is much, much cheaper. Also, if you opt for a full head of lettuce rather than the hearts and clean off yourself, you'd save a bundle!I love salads all the time, I just had an amazing spinach, pecan, cranberry and feta salad topped with raspberry vinaigrette.

A three pack of romaine hearts cost $6.99 here last week! Yikes! (It's usually about $3.00.) So, yeah, I'm not buying it at that price.

because summer is so drying and cold, I find myself often eating MORE salads because I need to feel nourished and taken care of from the inside out

I try to make a salad with dinner every night I cook. But I do notice during the winter months, I am not as creative with it as I am in the summer months. Most of the time they are just basic green salads.
