I've only ever been on a few...I went to an apple cider making place and the Coors brewery. I like them because I like to see the machinery that makes all the food. I did also used to work at a food factory that made all kinds of fried foods. We didn't offer tours, but every time I went to the plant, it was just cold and noisy and smelly (especially anything with onions, zucchini, or Parmesan cheese). I'd probably like the Hershey's tour, though...chocolate smells YUMMY!
When my kids were younger we spent some summer days touring various food factories. Being close to Philly we been to Hershey many times, Herr's, Cabot Cheese and Ben and Jerry's in Vermont and one of our favorites because they don't let the public tour was Tastykakes. There's a good deal of factory tours in the Lancaster area also. I loved learning how they produced so much so fast and my kids learned while having fun. Free samples at the end never hurt too.
I've only been to Hershey too (the one in Smith's Falls that's closed down now)... I don't remember much about it except that the streetlamps in the parking lot looked like Kisses, and that the defective Reese's cups were $2 for a box of 12. Also, I ate about 6 pounds of Twizzlers that day :) We all had bellyaches for the bus ride home!
