Do You Ever Drink Wine With Ice?

Since I never enjoy my wine with ice (sangria doesn't count!), I was fascinated by a recent article in the Chicago Tribune where tasting panelists concluded certain wines actually taste better with a few ice cubes floating around in them. It got me to thinking whether I should start trying this unconventional wine drinking method — especially while the weather is still warm. Do you ever drink wine on ice?

Only white wines if they are not cold enough or on a really hot evening.

I almost always have ice with white or blush wines.

With a white, if it isn't cold yet but only a cube or two.

Nope. That said, I'd only ever consider it with a white wine, which I'm less a fan of than red.

Yes I do for white wine - it adds to the interest - makes wine less "winey" and keeps it colder longer. Try it.

Blushes and whites are perfect with ice. It takes the edge off the initial sips and lets you enjoy some of the subtler notes.

I guess the wine cubes make sense if you want really cold wine but the rule of thumb I've heard it put red wine in the fridge 15 minutes before you want to serve it and take white wine out 15 minutes before to get the right temp.

I don't really drink wine, but the concept makes no sense to me. Why would you dilute your wine? Wouldn't it be better to just chill it really well first or put frozen pieces of fruit in it so it doesn't get diluted? I like the frozen wine cube idea; I bet that works pretty well.

In France, they drink rose wine in a huge glass with ice in it. It's called a "piscine" (swimming pool)

It's not ideal but if the wine is too warm to be enjoyable then why not.

solution: always keep frozen wine ice cubes in your freezer and use them if you don't want your wine to get diluted. you can do the same with iced coffee!

At the lounge I've had quite a few ladies order a side of ice with their whites, but it sure doesn't appeal to me.

No, but this is a funny coincidence because I just saw someone do this, and I was wondering if it's a common thing I just don't know about.

I use ice or water to dilute my white wine, especially since I am sensitive to alcohol, and tend to get tired/drunk very easily. My mom did this, and I do, too...but with good reason. People think I am weird.

absolutely. my sister's boyfriend's family is Italian, and they drink red wine chilled and sometimes wine with ice depending on their mood, and I figure, if Italians are ok with it, its fine by me!
