Do You Ever Follow Recipes on the Back of Packages?

As America increasingly becomes a gourmet nation, large food corporations are trying to change with the times. According to a story in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, companies like Campbell's and Nestlé are adapting back-of-the-package recipes to appeal to home cooks with more nuanced palates. Reading the article made me realize that I don't think I've ever made a recipe that comes on the back of a bag of chocolate chips or a box of saltine crackers. Have you?

Sometimes but I tend to make subs since I am incorporating more vegetables in my diet.

The oatmeal cookie recipe on the lid of the big canister of Quaker Oats is the best!

the tollhouse cookie recipe is the best the is the one i always use i i dont even need the bag anymore

The only one I can think of is the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe on the Crisco package- it is SO GOOD. Better than the Toll House version any day, especially if you like huge, flat, chewy cookies with nuts.

I sometimes do, especially when I try something new and don't know what to do with it. Most of the time I only use it as inspiration, though.

I try not to buy a lot of highly processed foods, but gosh darn it, sometimes there is nothing quite as comforting and simple as the classic tuna noodle or green bean casserole made with Campbell's cream of mushroom soup. They make me feel like a kid again. :nerdgirl:

All the time! Especially ones from off Campbell's labels, since they're usually quick, easy casserole-like dishes that don't require exotic ingredients, and go over very well in our house.

I can only think of two - one was a recipe for lasagna on the back of the pasta package, in which you didn't have to boil the noodles first (I'm pretty sure I added a few of my own touches for the fillings though). The other was a recipe for brownies on the back of a chocolate chip bag. They were delicious.

Only the one for TollHouse chocolate chip cookies. It's one of the best I've come across.

I use to but only for the oldtime classics. I now can't seem to follow a recipe to save my life. I am more comfortable throwing in some of this and some of that and couldn't be bothered measuring.

For chocolate chip cookies I do but other than that...not so much. When I was a kid, I think I tried making every recipe that was on the back of a box of Bisquick.

sometimes i do...and if a product comes with a little promo book i read it and sometimes pull recipes from it too i recently saw a similar one as on the picture, on Condensed Cream of Chicken, but i thought it looked gross

All the time. I'm kinda neurotic when it comes to recipes. First time I do it just like it says, then I usually make major adjustments; especially on the garlic, onion and other spices. I likea da spicy foods!
