Do You Order House Wines at Restaurants?

I recently read that many restaurants are beginning to collaborate with individual wineries and private-label brands to create higher-end house wines. While I've never been one to order house wines — I'd rather order the vintage of my choice by the glass — the concept makes me reconsider my wine preferences when dining out. Do you feel the same?

If I'm having a nice meal, I'll order somewhere that goes nicely with the food. If I'm just going for a few glasses of wine at HH (only occasionally of course; all things in moderation), I'll often order the house wine.

If there's a happy hour special on it or something. Otherwise, I'll get the wine I'd like to drink.

I usually choose a house wine because they are moderately priced, and seem to pair with many things on the menu, so you can share a half bottle with your friend or whomever your out to dinner with.

My experiences with house wines is that they are not very good. If I'm going to pay for wine when I'm out, I want to enjoy it. If I were at a party or someone else was treating and got house wine I would graciously drink it, but I would always prefer to order something nicer,
