Do You Own a Kitchen Torch?

If you're unfamiliar with how to use a blowtorch, it might seem like the kind of utensil you wouldn't want in your kitchen — although experts know that it comes in handy for a number of things. A kitchen torch doesn't just caramelize the sugar topping on crème brûlée; it can also be used to brown meringue and cook prime rib, for instance. I don't have one — yet — but 2010 could be the year I finally buckle down and buy one. What about you?

loveee the kitchen torch! bb&b has a set thats 20$ (16$ after the 20% coup) and it comes with a smaller torch and 4 dishes that are great for creme brulee, mac n cheese...the list goes on!

Oh and it's also great for glazing one of those Honey Baked Hams.

I use mine on occasion to melt cheese on top of my mac and cheese. It melts it kind of like putting it in the broiler, but it gets a great crispy cheese top. It's also good for marshmallows for quick smores. And a friend of mine uses it for grapefruit brulee which is a half a grapefruit with sugar sprinkled on top and then torched.I have also used my old one for heating the wax on the bottom of my snowboard when it needs to be rewaxed. You have to be very careful when doing this or you torch your board. Of course I also use it for creme brulee.
