Have You Ever Cooked With Kids?

If you woke up this morning consumed with the dread that it's Monday, cheer up. It's not any old start to the week. Today is Family Day, and millions of Americans will be preparing and sitting down to dinner with their children. The occasion got me thinking that I need to spend more time with little ones in the kitchen — I rarely do so. What about you? How often do you invite kids into your kitchen?

years ago i made a mistake by letting my nephew "help" me cook - i was carrying a cup of hot melted butter which i somehow spilled on him, burning his shoulder. I was fairly young myself so i didnt really think that anything could go wrong. In the future i would only ever let kids help with cold foods or make sure to keep them seated while let them stir a mix or something like that.

My job is to coordinate childrens afterschool programs... Our most popular one is called Kids in the Kitchen. We have a waitlist over 100 kids long! I work in an area that has a lot of economically disadvantaged families, who are used to eating alot of convenience food. Alot of the kids are actually surprised that tacos don't actually come out of a yellow box! Cooking with kids is so much fun. And, once we are done cooking, we sit down and have a great meal all together... I probably learn more from the kids!

When I was a baby-sitter, I used to make cookies and let kids help preparing meals. But alas, my niece lives 4000 miles away and we have yet to have kids. If we do have kids, they will certainly be invited to help in the kitchen.

I cook with my friends' kids (ages 4 and 3) sometimes, but my little nephew is a bit too young to do anything but make a mess. I can't wait til he's a little older so I can bake cookies and stuff with him.

My 3 and 7 year old daughters are my soux chefs! I cook with them every day!

i never cook with kids. their meat tends to be gamey and stringy.

I don't have kids yet, but I think I would be a little worried to have them around the kitchen. I'm afraid it could get dangerous - maybe because I'm clumsy and I often hurt myself while cooking :P

My younger daughter is 9 yr old, and we made cookies / cakes all the time. She is such a good helper - She know where I put all my ingredients.

My 4 yr old loves to be in the kitchen helping. We have aprons, and kids sized tools. She is a great dumper.

my brother is 11 years younger than me and I've cooked with him plenty of times, its so fun!

I couldn't vote b/c there was no option for me. I use to volunteer with a cooking program that showed kids how to cook different recipes from start to finish - teaching them how to prep, cut, measure, and cook the meal. I did this in the summers and it was a great experience.
