Whenever I'm traveling to a different city, I spend some time looking into the eateries I must visit. Sometimes, the most recently acclaimed restaurant is at the top of my list, but more often than not, I'm out to try the city's most famed food institutions. On a recent trip to Los Angeles, I knew I had to visit Langer's, the Jewish delicatessen known for, as Nora Ephron once put it, "the finest hot pastrami sandwich in the world." Also on the list: The Pantry and Cole's. When you travel, do you make it a priority to visit a city's food institutions, too?

I'm also dying to try Ben's Chili Bowl in Washington, DC and Russ & Daughters in New York!
I live right by Russ, Yum!! It lives up to the hype!!!!!! And I went to college in DC and Ben's is amazing as well.
One of these days, I'll get to NYC... dreams of Aquavit and Katz's and Carnegie Deli abound...
ive never heard of any of these nyc places
That is always a big part of my vacation planning - there are so many amazing restaurants and hole-in-the-walls, that it's hard to hit them all when I travel!
Yep, we always do that. It's kind of fun to say you've been somewhere famous. We like to find the places that we see on "Man vs. Food" or "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". Last time my husband went out to AZ, he drove to Chandler just to go to the Heart Attack Grill just to say he'd been there.
I am. I'm a foodie...Food lover...love food culture...so it's a hands down YES!
mamasitamalita, I am so jealous!!
You must try Ben's. The half smoke is delish!
nope never have
This past spring, while driving back and forth between Ohio to Florida, my friend and I stopped in Savannah. On the way down, it was to lunch at The Pirate House (the salmon sandwich is amazing!) and on the way back it was to eat a Uncle Bubba's. We would have stopped at The Lady and Sons, but Bubba had more seafood on his menu.
