Quinoa, pronounced keen-wah
A grain staple of the ancient Incas known today for its high protein content. Ivory in color and tiny and bead shaped, quinoa looks like rice. When cooked, it expands to four times its uncooked size. With a mild, bland flavor, it is easily comparable to couscous. Available in most supermarkets as a grain, flour, or pasta.

i really love it...it's kinda like brown rice. but you have to make sure you cook it enough so it's not crunchy

I think quinoa's too chewy. (And weirdly enough, people in Asheville know how to pronounce it. It's a cool hippie town and a lot of delis have it for lunch.)

I've tried it several times and like the tast, but it just doesn't agree with my digestive system... it always makes me kind of gassy...

I felt like such a retard when I found out that I was pronouncing this word incorrectly. I was talking to my mom about a vegan recipe, and she busted up laughing because I was saying it kwinn-oah, not keen-wah. She still makes fun of me for it.

If you haven't tried it, you must. It's so healthy for you and is not only great for salads, but it is the perfect side. You saute anything and mix it with the quinoa as it tends to take on the taste of what it is mixed with.
