I was checking out the recipes in the Kitchen Goddess group, when I saw this one from TeamSugar member ashleyk4214. Her recipe is for a simple dessert, but unique dessert. Not any old apple dumplings, these ones are made with Mountain Dew! That's right, the golden pastries are cooked in a mixture of Mountain Dew, cinnamon, butter and sugar. If this sounds intriguing to you, get the recipe, just read more.
Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings
From TeamSugar member ashleyk4214
I got this recipe in my email this afternoon and I KNEW I had to make it just as soon as I had the chance, it sounded so good! Well, the chance just so happen came up tonight when my sister invited me over for dinner (I think she is feeling sorry for me since the husband is still out of town). Anyway, here's the basics:
2 cans crescent rolls. I used Pillsbury 8 count cans in original flava.
2 apples. I used green apples, I believe they were Granny Smith.
2 sticks butter. I don't skimp, the recipe says you can use margarine, but what's the point anyway?
2 cups sugar.
2 tsp. cinnamon.
1 can Mountain Dew.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Core and slice apples (I removed the skins as well).
Wrap each in a crescent triangle. I basically just tried my best to get every inch of the apple covered by the dough.
Line up in a 9x13 inch pan.
Melt butter, cinnamon, and sugar together. I just nuked the butter and then stirred in the sugar and cinnamon until it had a pretty smooth, pourable consistency.
Pour the Dew around the perimeter of the pan.
Bake 45 minutes.
Eat warm with a scoop, or 3, of vanilla ice cream.
The apple slices wrapped in the crescent dough.

easy recipe, sounds horrid nutrition wise...but one to try if you want apple dumplings without the work of making the pastry part.
1
YUM! Sounds (and looks!) delicious!
2I think this is originally from Pioneer Woman Cooks, right? Or maybe just a crazy coincidence. I think Ree (the blogger) posted this recipe yesterday - I actually ran out and bought the ingredients this morning to make this too!
3Yummmmm my arteries are hardening just looking at the pictures!!
4What does the mountain dew add to the recipe? i know i've had 7up cake and other stuff was soda, but I always wondered what it added...
5It sounds tasty to me, but I'll never get the husband to eat these!
6My boyfriend keeps asking me to make it, Ashley! He loves anything with unconventional ingredients. And I have to say, it looks really good.
7I was wondering the same thing, what is the point of the mt dew?
8hmmmm, i wonder what it tastes like.
9Oh yum!! I'm going to have to try this one for sure!
10that looks GREAT! simple and tasty im sure
11freegracefrom, that's just what I was thinking - those look like Ree's dumplings! Credit where credit is due.
12My husband makes dumplings similary to this, but he used sprite and wraps the apples peeled, cored and whole. They come out very pretty!
thanks ladies, i hadn't checked PWC, but it does indeed seem to be the same thing. Has anyone else tried it yet?
13I didn't know it was posted on PWC either, I don't check it every day, but let me assure you, I DID make this on Tuesday night and it was really delicious!! It tasted just like apple pie a la mode! A co-worker sent this recipe to me through email, but maybe she got it from a person that got it from a person that got it from PWC, I don't know.
14As for what the mountain dew does, I'm not exactly sure, but my co-worker said that she has made it before and used Sprite instead and it was just as tasty. I thought the end product was extremely sweet and next time I might either cut down on the sugar or the mountain dew I add to the recipe.
I have had these, they are soooo tasty!!!!
15Actually...I've seen this recipe before in Every Day with Rachael Ray:
http://www.rachaelraymag.com/recipes/dessert-recipes/apple-dumplings-rec...
(It's a really good one though -- very delicious result from little effort, everyone should try it!)
16I have made these before. The recipe was called "apple-dews" ha!
17My aunt gave me the recipe and she says if you don't want to use the Mt.Dew, you can use 7up, sprite..ect.
They are very sweet, I cut the sugar amount in half, and they were still sweet enough. So yummy with ice cream!
It must just be a very popular recipe.
I didn't mean to accuse you, Ashley. I just
did a double-take because she had just recently posted this recipe too. I think it's a sign that I definitely need to make these myself soon and I'll take your suggestion not to use as much
Mt Dew.
18Not sure on this one. The Mountain Dew thing turns me off.
19i just noticed a chocolate cake recipe, but forget that - these look so much more tasty! Do you suppose diet soda would work? I'm diabetic, and I can't have too much sugar (I'd be using Splenda, too).
20You need to make these again. They were very yummy!!
21I LOVE these. They are wonderful. I learned to make them in foods class and they have been a huge hit at home ever since. Easy and yummy. My grandma makes them with peaches also which are also wonderful.
22Actually, this recipe has been around LONG before Pioneer Woman posted it. If you bothered to read on her blog, she even says she borrowed it from her mother's recipe book, and that her mother got it from a friend. And then several people posted that they or people from their church had been making it for years. Perhaps it's PW who should be giving credit where credit is due, if you're so keen on pointing out when recipes have changed hands?
But actually, if you'd do your homework before suggesting such a thing, technically, this is not the same recipe as PWs. Why? Because you cannot copyright a list of ingredients. All you can lay claim to is the exact way you write down the way you make the recipe, and the photos you use to illustrate it. Since this person has neither used PWs words nor photos here, and only the list of ingredients is the same, there's no issue. This the same thing that would protect PW from every church lady, Sandra Lee, Rachel Ray or anyone else who ever wrote down a recipe with obnoxious amounts of butter, sugar, Pillsbury rolls and Mountain Dew from deciding she was in violation of their copyright.
Still want to demand that this recipe belongs to PW and her alone?
23A friend made these at Thanksgiving- they are amazing!! I will be making this sinful treat very soon!!
24I was getting ready to make this for Christmas and lost the receipt and thank god I found this on the internet! This is great and makes a hit. The only thing I did different was add 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract.
25And of course...Blue Bell Vanilla Bean Ice Cream to place on top after it's done.
Like my Italian grandmother use to say..."I'll diet when I die!"
