Top Chef Vegas: Episode 8

Did you catch the latest episode of Top Chef? We had Pilates, pairings, and Charlie Palmer, the guest judge. Did anyone else wonder how come Bravo couldn't find a judge who didn't know the V Bros? Want to discuss more details? Well, you know what to do, keep reading.

1. Cool or lame: Eli living at home with his parents? While I think Eli is lame, I don't think living with his parents is. 2. Unrelated question: What was Padma wearing? Those white boots? That giant hat? I wasn't looking at Padma. 3. When guest judge Charlie Palmer said he wasn't going to be biased toward the Voltaggio brothers, did you believe him? Yes. 4. Should chefs know how to pair wine and food? Only if it is going to help them with the career they want. If they want to run a pizza place then I don't think it is necessary. 5. Are you surprised by Eli's food and wine expertise? No. 6. What's your impression of Robin? I like her. I know she would get on my nerves, but some people are just rude to her. I would probably man up and tell her how I truly feel in a respectful way. If she didn't care about what I had to say then I would just ignore her. 7. Kevin believes that Mike V. is trying to manipulate his brother. Do you agree? Yes. 8. What do you think of the season so far? I just want to fast forward to the top four because we all know who it's going to be! lol Same here. I like this season, but I'm not connecting with the chefs like I usually did. I always hate the new season because I'm like, "NOOO!! I'm too used to this chef and that chef," but then I grow to like them. I don't really like anyone here. No personality.

1. Eh, whatever. Just surprising given all his talk about his gf in previous episodes. 2. Her outfits get tackier by the week. I would actually argue that the white belt/boots ensemble was less offensive than the green jumpsuit, but it's all relative. 3. I agree with myfairlady93. Even if you think you're being impartial, it's hard not to subconsciously be affected by prior experience, whether via favoritism or overcompensating and being overly harsh. 4. Ideally, yes. 5. Well, for all his trash talking, the judges thought his dish (while good) definitely did not pair with the wine, so I'm not sure his palate is that well honed. 6. It's complicated. It seems like Robin (well, anyone, but especially Robin) would be hard to live with when you're cooped up together 24/7 in an already stressful environment. And just because she's dealing with cancer doesn't mean she gets a free pass to behave in objectionable ways. But I do think that some of the other chefs were nearly as bad with their immaturity in dealing with it. It did appear that they were "ganging up" on her to an extent. 7. That was interesting. Not something I'd thought that much about until this episode. I'm now trying to think about their interactions in previous eps and see if the same pattern was in place. In any event, I agree with ann418 that Michael's behavior was s****y in light of how his brother had stuck up for him, and how close they appear to be. Of course, Michael may not have known about Bryan's words on his behalf. 8. It's intersting. I recognize that it's a necessity and has been present in other seasons as well, but the product placement is getting to be a little much for me. I agree with prior posts that have implied that the judges have been blunter this year. I imagine that with several seasons, Colicchio et al. have gotten more hardened, but they forget that it's the first time for the contestants. Obvs real talk is what we're looking for from the judges but it's been a little gratuitous this time out. Still a very good season, though!

They should just award Top Chef to Kevin. I've read other spoilers that one of "the four" goes home next week, it is restaurant wars after all

1. My daughter lived at home until she could afford to move into NYC. So, not lame, unless he wants to stay there forever... 2. Liked the belt, though. 3. Yes, but what I really want to know is where Charlie Palmer lives that he can step outside his door and shoot a wild boar. 4. Yes 5. I find Eli annoying, so I don't care what he knows or doesn't know. 6. Robin is someone I would be able to take in very small doses. However, someone could nicely tell her to be quiet, instead of complaining about her. 7. Sometimes it seems as if this competition is just between the brothers, which is irritating. 8. Tom Colicchio inferred on his blog today that someone big was going home next week. At least the commenters thought so.

1. Lame and not surprising in the least. (no offense) 2. I bet she was trying to take away from her baby bump at the time. 3. Kinda. I bet Mike and Bryan were trying to cook to Charlie Palmer's taste - I sure would have! 4. Absolutely. How could you make a wine list at your restaurant if you couldn't? 5. Eh, I don't really care about Eli. :) 6. She just has the situation wrong. She's a nervous talker, but her talking is what annoys people. She tries to talk to relieve the tension but it just creates more. I bet she'll be around for two more weeks, tops. 7. That would be kinda mean, especially since Bryan stuck up for his brother last week. Mike seems way more competitive than Bryan though. 8. Yea, pretty much. Mike V, Bryan, Jen, Kevin. I bet Kevin will win, I love him so very much!

1. I don't really care either way. 2. Padma really needs to learn how to dress. 3. Being unbiased is way easier said than done. 4. Absolutely. 5. Yeah; Eli consistently annoys me with his thinking that he is this awesome chef, when IMO he is not, especially compared to Kevin, Jen, and the Volt brothers. 6. Annoying. I don't think she realizes that people are annoyed with her because she doesn't shut up and tries to involve herself with whatever they're doing, not because of her age or w/e. 7. It is what the younger sibling generally does. I'm a younger sibling and totally know what to do to annoy my brother. 8. This season is better than last season contestant wise; some of the challenges have been really stupid though. Especially with regards to having some of the servings outside in Las Vegas.

1. Not lame. I live with my parents by choice too. It gives me a chance to save a lot of money and be close to my family. Its a win-win. 2. She always looks ridiculous lately. 3. No way you can be unbiased. Bryan worked with him for 10 years, thats gotta count for something. 4. I guess since a lot of foodies like wine. I hate wine so it wouldn't matter what wine matches well. 6. Annoying which I guess is what the producers are going for. I think she lacks the ability to stfu on the show. 7. Maybe a little. He's trying to push his buttons to get him off his game. I would do the same thing. 8. I love this season, so much better than the last. I look forward to the episodes every week. p.s. No mention of Kevin's undying love for the pig? I thought he was funny and adorable last night.
