Ever go to make cookies only to find that your brown sugar is as hard as a rock? It's happened to everyone and it can easily be avoided. Soak a small clay disk in water for a half an hour before placing inside the box of brown sugar. Nested into the sugar, the disk keeps the sugar from hardening. I was skeptical at first, but then I witnessed the magic of the clay disk in person. I was baking at the vacation house and had to borrow sugar from my mom's friend. She brought it over and I asked if she had just purchased the sugar because it was so soft (and I knew it couldn't have been that soft sitting in her cabin). That's when she pulled the little clay disk out and held up an amazing little known kitchen gadget. Try it and let me know if it works!
