Spain Serves Up the World's Largest Salad

This weekend, the Spanish town of Pulpi set a new world record for the world's largest salad. The salad, which was tossed on Saturday, weighed 6,700 kilograms and consisted of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers and olives. Twenty cooks took three hours to toss the salad, which will be distributed to Pulpi restaurants to serve to their clients for free.

I'm not sure why they decided to go for this record, but I'm always amazed by the amount of food that is used in these sort of things. What about you, what do you think of this record?

This kind of thing really pisses me off. It's frivolous and wasteful. I wish they'd stop using food to try making world records. Who really gives a crap about them, anyway? *gggrrrr*

i agree with lexi. these kind of food records are so unsanitary. you know those cooks got sweaty when they mixed up the salad for 3 hours.

I think records like this are pointless and wasteful. And, just because I'm a number cruncher who likes to quantify things: That's 14,771 lbs of salad...Dole says a salad serving is 3 oz but for a round number let's figure a large serving of 4 oz...that means there are 59,084 servings of salad...I just looked up Pulpi and they have a population of 7,600...there's no way that's going to get eaten, free or not. What a waste.
