Move Over Garbage Bowl, There's a New Bowl in the Kitchen!

While Rachael Ray has taught the world the importance of a garbage bowl, a handy dumping bowl she leaves on the counter while cooking, it's 2010 and time for us to take it one step further. Meet the compost bowl! From garlic skins to mushroom stems, a lot of kitchen waste is compostable. To ensure that I remember to compost, I've started collecting unwanted scraps in a compost bowl. When the bowl is full, simply dump in the compost bin and wash as you would any other cooking bowl. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it's quick and easy, and it promotes a clean-as-you-cook mentality.

in south korea, every family does this! it is really amazing! most families live in tall skyscraper apartment buildings and there is even a small community compost bin outside of everything building! ohhh the day the u.s can do that same....

My inlaws have a compost bucket that they keep under the sink. You have to empty it a lot or it really smells, though.

We use big old yogurt tub/hole poked lid for our daily compostable scrapes. After cooking I put it in a plastic bag and place it in the refrigerator so we don't have a fly problem. We dump it every few days...up to a week so nothing goes nasty gross whilst in the fridge.

This is a familiar bowl to me it existed in my parents home my entire childhood. Sadly the apartment where I live now has no space for compost

My mom uses a large plastic tub with a lid - to thwart the fruit flies. She probably dumps hers every couple days or so. And she also composts eggshells along with veggie/fruit waste.

I would make that a very tiny bowl though, because I can usually see flies coming out of it after just a few hours -_-

While I don't actually compost, I collect the veggie waste and it goes in my yard waste can to go to the county compost site.

I'd suggest a soup stock bowl... throw carrot, celery, garlic, onion, kale, etc in and keep them in the freezer in a ziplock bag. When you have a full bag, you can make soup stock with them.
