Top Chef 5.3 — Foo Fighters Thanksgiving Recap

This week on a Thanksgiving episode of Top Chef, the Foo Fighters made a special appearance and award-winning chef and cancer survivor, Grant Achatz, was the guest judge. To discuss the episode (warning: spoilers ahead), read more.

Watching the start of the quickfire, did you want the Top Chef cookbook? I did!

I thought Danny should have gone home. Everyone watching at my house thought Danny should have gone home! I want the cook book!!! and some vegan stuffing followed by some pumpkin Tiramisu!

i thought it was really weird that this episode had NO losers in the quick fire... and no winners in the challenge... i didn't get it.

I don't really watch this season but I did Tivo the episode for the Foos. They're not a favorite anymore but I saw Dave in the commercial and it was love The Colour And The Shape style all over again. Those smores looked hella gross.

1. he reminded me of ethan hawke a bit. i like my guys with a little more meat on their bones. he's not bad looking just not a hottie in my book. 2. yes! either i'll get it for myself or put it on my christmas wish list. :-) 3. i do like white asparagus but depending on the dish, green asparagus gives it nice color. 4. no not at all. it's a competition...of course one might choose the strongest players. 5. ariane is attractive woman but i wouldn't say she's a cougar. she's kind of irritating. always needing to be picked up and validated. i'm waiting for her to get the boot. there's much more talented chefs in the show than her. 6. can't even imagine Thanksgiving dinner in a microwave! though if it had to be done, you do what you gotta do! 7. hosea's dish was disappointing...he has to have something more creative up his sleeve!! 8. definitely the pumpkin tiramisu! 9. yeah, would have liked to see the judges pick a winner...oh well. 10. richard

Grant Achatz: kind of a hottie? Kind of looks liek Ethan Hawke - who I don't find cute. Do you consider Ariane a cougar? Don't u have to only wantsubstantially younger men to be a cougar? did she say that?

Fabio is local he is a very nice, kind man he comes off, different on tv because Italian is his first languate ...I went to his restaurant Cafe Firenze Sunday and he looks 12 y.o. in person-but he is a kind man -a cutie cooking in italy since he was 12

Grant Achatz: kind of a hottie? Eh... Watching the start of the quickfire, did you want the Top Chef cookbook? Yes I definitely want it! Do you like white asparagus? I've never tried it but I'm not fond of green asparagus so I don't have very high hopes. Were you surprised that Leah selected the most confident chefs? No. It was a logical move. Do you consider Ariane a cougar? Not really. Can you imagine cooking Thanksgiving dinner in a microwave? Yes because that's how I usually do it. No it definitely does no compare to a home cooked meal but it CAN be done and done well. Hosea made a fruit cobbler and referred to it as not his "most proud dessert." Would you serve a mediocre dessert to the judges? Well, I can understand not being able to pull out your most extravagant dessert for this challenge. However, I wouldn't present anything that would not meet the judge's standards [which I think they should all be aware of by now] or that doesn't really show my passion and desire for the competition at hand. What dish did you want to eat at Thanksgiving? I want to try Fabio's pumpkin Tiramisu. Was it weird how the elimination challenge had no winner? Yeah I did think it was weird. Between Jeff, Richard, and Danny, who deserved to go home? I liked Richard but seriously... what was he thinking!?

Was it weird how the elimination challenge had no winner? the team won, but i would have liked to see how the judges chose the winner. they kept talking about how close it was, but there wasn't explanation on how they got there Between Jeff, Richard, and Danny, who deserved to go home? the right person went home, in my opinion.

Grant Achatz: kind of a hottie? NO WAY! Where did that come from? Watching the start of the quickfire, did you want the Top Chef cookbook? Naw, not really. Do you like white asparagus? Never had. Were you surprised that Leah selected the most confident chefs? No, it kind of made sense. Do you consider Ariane a cougar? No. But she does remind me of Demi Moore for some reason. Can you imagine cooking Thanksgiving dinner in a microwave? I can't imagine cooking any dinner in a microwave. Hosea made a fruit cobbler and referred to it as not his "most proud dessert." Would you serve a mediocre dessert to the judges? No, I would not. What dish did you want to eat at Thanksgiving? The vegan stuffing. Was it weird how the elimination challenge had no winner? Hmmmm, I didn't think about that until now... Between Jeff, Richard, and Danny, who deserved to go home? Richard and Danny for sure! Undercooked potatoes and s'mores?? Give me a break! 1. He looked kind of cute from far away - at judges' table, though, he seemed scrawny. Especially with that wispy goatee. 2. I could do without. I have some great cookbooks already - the last thing I need is one filled with gimmicky recipes. 3. Yes! It's delicious! 4. Leah selected the ones who knew what they were doing, clearly. I was disappointed that she didn't choose Eugene, and I was quite surprised she chose Radhika. Speaking of whom, not a whole lot of screen time for Radhika this week. 5. Ew. No. Not because she's too old or anything, just that I find her phenomenally unattractive - especially when she's talking. 6. I can only cringe at the thought. I felt so bad for them! 7. I think the desire to put *something* on the plate is a huge draw. I don't think I'd have the gumption to show up empty-handed. 8. I really want to try the vegan stuffing. I'm an unabashed carnivore, so any time I hear of a delicious vegan dish, I'm intrigued. For comparison's sake, I have a perverse desire to try the al dente potatoes. 9. I was dying to see who *won*! Color me annoyed. 10. I'm really sad to say it, because Richard was one of my favorites, but Richard. Danny was a blockhead, but he served something that had a decent concept to it. Richard was just way off the mark. I wish he were still around, though. And that exit-interview was the saddest thing ever. I appreciated that he said he was worried about recriminations and throwing people under busses, and I am glad that he exited with honor. I have seen enough Top Chef to recognize crassness at judges' table. Richard was a class act. Still on my list: Jaime, Fabio, Leah, Hosea, Eugene. Dislike: Carla, Ariane, Danny. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

YES how cool did those recipes look? 3. love it 4. yes 5. not really, she doesn't look old enough to qualify as one, but I'm glad she redeemed herself with the turkey 6. it seemed to work, but what a challenge 7. in a competition I guess you have to 8.
