Bizarre Foods host Andrew Zimmern doesn't like Tyler Florence and he's not afraid to publicly express his disgust for the Food Network chef. Last week on his personal blog, Zimmern said in a discussion of Ryan Seacrest's reality show, Momma's Boys:
Monday’s episode featured the worlds least talented TV chef, Tyler Florence, once again churning out the questionable cooking advice and the leading the ladies through a menu of the Moms fave recipes. Watching Florence wolf down the food, stare and ogle every ass that strolled by his cutting board and play the role of local TV stud was high comedy of the highest order.
To find out what Florence had to say about ZImmern, read more. Florence's quick response was posted on his Facebook account:
Normally I have pretty thick skin when it comes to blogs and what people think. It is a free country after all, But this guy Andrew Zimmern, the guy who eats dried camel cock for a living, has decided to dis my life's work because I did, my personal friend, Ryan Seacrest, a favor and helped him out with his first big television production, "Momma's Boy's" It was a big hit for NBC and something I had a fun time doing. It's bubble gum reality, who cares. It was funny. I guess it hard to have a since of humor when you're on your 10th take of eating Yak testicles, smiling to the camera, wondering where your life went wrong......... mmmmm, Delicious! Go get'em guys. Let's put an end to Chef on Chef violence in '09.
I think it's interesting how Florence asks for an end to chef feuding after he violently disses Zimmern. What do you think of the battle? Who do you side with: Zimmern or Florence?

Kurt Geiger
I don't know what's more stiff...Florence's gelled hair, Zimmern's hand held animal pecker, or the collective yawns of anyone within earshot of these two donut holes. All I know is that bacon heals all wounds.
1well i think that tyler was right to say what he did, and that andrew really needs to just focus on what he does - by the way, what is that again? i can't say that either chef really excite me, but zimmer is the least of the 2, so he really should just keep his comments to himself. tyler was doing ryan a favor, and it was all in good fun and that's that.
2Pretty talk from a guy that will eat ANYHTHING for the sake of a TV show. It's hard to say that Mr. Florence is dispensing questionable advice when you see what Mr. Zimmern is telling us is delicious and okay to eat.
3I hate tyler florence. always have. i don't like his personality, or the recipes he chooses to cook. i don't watch his show as a result. i know zimmern is fairly well-respected in the world of chefs, and i give him credit for doing the show he does because, frankly, people in america make faces and say "ugh!" to any part of an animal they find unpleasant, and i give him some props for knowing and understanding that in many other cultures, EVERY part of an animal is eaten, and the people who need it to survive shouldn't be disrespected.
(because IS it not respectable to eat an animal's genitals? don't most cultures?)
however, "bizarre foods" is probably just exploitive, which is a real shame.
4I love Tyler Florence. I just stumbled upon his show, and I like that his recipes are very approachable yet yummy. I've made many of his recipes, and I don't have a problem with someone who sticks to classics. I've never heard of this Zimmern guy, but anyone who disses another cook just because he wants to--seems very unprofessional. (Even if it were someone like Sandra Lee) His commentary seems much more personal--not just an opinion on his food or culinary skills. Poor taste, and sad that Tyler Florence felt the need to react in a similar way.
5Now all we need is an acerbic play-by-play commentary - as only Anthony Bourdain can tell it. lol
*DING*!
6I'm sorry, WHO are these guys?
7I love Tyler. He's a great chef and he's hot. And he's not annoying like Paula Deen or Rachael Ray. He's one of the few watchable cooks on TV.
8The only way to settle this is Florence v. Zimmern on Iron Chef America. I'd like to see Tyler run circles around this guy. I can't stand him. His show sucks and watching him eat all that crap makes me want to puke.
9I have to side with tyler on this one, although i hate ryan seacrest Tyler is a good chef and apparantly was helping a friend, ANDREW on the other hand is making a living eating "bizarre" foods which means at least once in his show he will eat balls and in front of the person who cooked whatever dish he deems "gross" diss it without any respect towards that culture or the person who prepared that dish. THAT and he is one disgusting open mouth eater which is unforgivable, oh and he wears turtlenecks with shorts which is also unforgivable.
10Great idea Erin, they should settle it on Iron Chef to see who can really talk trash. I have a feeling Tyler would beat him easily.
11Lol @ hand held animal pecker! Funny but what's in the picture is not that - it's a clam, actually a geoduck.
12CG-he actually likes balls..
And I've never once see him
seriously diss food his guests prepared/showed him; maybe once or twice when it was really repulsive but he's always in good spirits about it. I like his show. It's not just about making
people go eww; it's about opening our eyes to the unusual things some people eat around the globe.
With that said, I'm really disappointed. I never would've expected this of him. I don't like Tyler either but I wouldn't go public about it; it just creates unnecessary drama for them.
13flyingroo,
Ruh roh!
Where is MY mind today?! I blame Tyler's hair gel!
14Both these guys are schmucks!
"Let's put an end to Chef on Chef violence in '09." How passive aggressive was that after going after Zimmerman?
15Meow...it's a man cat fight.
16well i think they are both being immature. i like Tyler Florence and do use his recipes occasionally and find him and his personality pretty attractive. i've purposely avoided watching bizarre foods because that guy annoys me and the concept of the show repels me. same reason i don't watch bear grills or Anthony Bordon. why do i want to watch people eating things i wouldn't eat. when i watch a cooking show i want to be shown something that I could actually make not yak testicles. As it is their 'feud' needs to reined in...please they are tv show chefs not WWF wrestlers.
17The feud between these two is very immature. But what I find the most immature and disappointing is some of the comments left on this very page! Bizarre Foods shows a different face to food and cooking. If you cannot accept that EVERY culture eats DIFFERENT things (including, yes, BALLS) and that it is OKAY, then please don't say anything at all.
18Grey, I didnt see ANY COMMENT on here putting down any other cultures food . What i did see was people commenting on ANDREW and his show. big difference. maybe read them all thoroughly next time before assuming the worst K?
19OK, I don't care a lick about these two or their feud, I just wanted to say...
GEODUCK!
That was my college mascot.
20Cat, I DID read the comments carefully, including yours (I watch Zimmerman's show and he does NOT ever "diss" another culture based on their food) and trust me, I do not need to go back and scrutinize every comment that showed ignorance. I am done here.
21you still have yet to tell me what comment did all these ignorant things you say. you cant scrutinize something that doesnt exist.
and watch the stinky tofu episode to get the gist of andrew being rude to someone who obviously takes their food and culture seriously.
and he has, on his blog, PAID for (can you say sell out) by pepto bismal , pictures of food he has eaten that required the use of that particular stomach ache easing medication. I would be ticked if someone said to me after eating a dish i prepared that they needed Pepto Bismal because of it!
22and Really i am not being arguementative here, but the people on Yumsugar who are regular posters, arent ignorant of other cultures nor are we likely to say negative things about them, in fact most of us embrace new foods and cultures willingly.
23CaterpillarGirl, I've also watched one of Zimmern's pre-Bizarre Foods shows (I think it was a one-off, but it had a similar theme) where he also displayed rudeness to a different culture. The host visibly took offense, but handled it graciously. So I already disliked him well before BF.
24I'm not really a fan of either of them. There are very few tv chefs who don't have an annoying personality. Anthony Bourdain FTW because he really doesn't give a crap what anyone thinks of him.
25Who cares who's right or wrong? This is hilarity! We just need to pull Anthony Bourdain in for a really good catfight.
26I think Andrew Zimmerman is rude and condescending on his show. Even the title of his show, "Bizarre Foods" is rude. I don't like him, I don't watch him, and I certainly don't give a hoot about his opinion on Tyler Florence.
27Oh no, my boyfriends are fighting. I can't pick a side, I'm fans of both of them. I can see how Andrew Zimmern can come off as a jerk though. He can be a bit snobbish on "Bizarre Foods" even when he's in a Third world country.
28I dunno who this Tyler guy is, but he looks like a complete tool. His response was also kind of stupid..."wondering where your life went wrong." Zimmerman's getting paid to travel the world and eat food. His life didn't really go wrong anywhere with an outcome like that....
Also, to people saying Zimmerman is condescending...is he honestly any more condescending than other celebritiy? I actually find him mostly good-natured. Even when he doesn't enjoy a dish, which is rare, he's usually a pretty good sport about it. Maybe there were a few times when he came off as a jerk, but it was all for the entertainment value.
Seriously people, let's not look to corporate television shows for true enlightenment. Obviously both these guys are, for the most part, overpaid douches that don't give a sh*t what any of us have to say.
29Andrew Z is def. a bit effete, but his show is entertaining. It def. makes me appreciate living in the U.S. where fresh food is the norm, vs. places in the 3rd world where flies buzz about and people are eating goat heads. You also seem some very unusual preparation techniques, such as all the intentially spoiled and preserved foods. It sure beats watching R. Ray carry and spill her toppling pyramid of food back from the fridge for the 10th time.
Tyler is a bit of a hack and a mimbo. And before you flame me, I am a graduate of the Culinary Inst. of America so I know a wee smidgeon about food. He's there to look pretty which he does admirably. But please. Let's not pretend his food is innovative, or creative in any significant way.
30Zimmern is gay, no?
31Andrew Zimnmerman, or Zimmern, or whatever his name is now...is an overbearing, egotistical, puffed up bag o wind with a penchant for eating squid penis and fried elephant bunghole. He'd eat deep fried poop if given the chance. How yummy. How that show can hold anyones attention, except for Mr. Disgustor himself, is way beyond me. Tyler should slap him about the head and face with a spatula....
32uh.....hello? They are both douche bags. One's just a pretty face following recipes, no talent, follow-the-text tv show host. The other's a fat ignorant obviously american who can't travel without his entourage of tv and production crew.
Both are unwittingly dumbing down america, as if it's not bad enough that for most americans, that's the most cultural education is through the tube, sittin on their own fat sofas and eating nasty stuff from the microwave.
33kind of whack considering tyler florence seems like a really humble guy who would never start beef with anyone deliberately. i didnt think zimmern was like that though. he just seems like a goofy, harmless guy who likes to wear bright pink shorts & consume reproductive organs on a daily basis with a smile on his face. oh, and whoever "who cares" is should really stop trying so hard to sound intelligent and aware of culture. what do "fat sofas" and "nasty stuff from the microwave" have to do with anything? you are more ignorant and worthless than you will ever be able to understand
