Did You Eat Wedding Cake on Your First Anniversary?

Lauren and her husband recently celebrated their one-year anniversary — congrats! She posted this picture in the Wedding Talk group in the YumSugar Community. She says:

My husband and I just celebrated our first anniversary and a couple days before, my mom gave me a ziploc with pieces of our wedding desserts that she had saved. We had quite a few different things: a traditional Norwegian Ring Wedding cake, a truffle pyramid, and a Mexican wedding cookie pyramid; she saved little bits of each. I can only imagine how a traditional wedding cake would taste one year later — thankfully ours survived 365 days in the freezer, so they weren't half bad!

We finished off pieces for days afterwards, but we didn't have the freezer space to save any. I'm bummed too, because it was GOOD!

We didn't have a wedding cake. We had a very small ceremony in my parents' living room and then our small party went off to one of my favorite restaurants for a (sadly disappointing) meal. I don't even remember whether we had dessert--my husband and I had had a bit of an adventure that ended with us racing in a borrowed (blue) car across the country (from Idaho to Ohio) in 30 hours. In December. However, last year I made a wedding cake for a friend and her top tier was her grandmother's top tier, fruitcake which had been kept frozen for 60+ years. (I took care to whisk it off to the freezer again after they cut the cake--some of the more intoxicated groomsmen seemed a little too interested in seeing what 60+yo cake tasted like.) Apparently, no one in their family eats the top tier on their anniversaries either.

we did and it was amazing...I really didn't expect it to even be edibleI actually swore I would order a top tier recreation every year for our anniversary going forward, but now that our 2 year anniversary is this Sunday, I don't see it happening...oops!

We saved ours for our first child's christening as that was the tradition my husband wanted to follow. Little did we know we were goign to be married for eight years...fortunately, we had a traditional British cake, I think it's called a madeira cake, like a fruit cake, that froze very well. We probably didn't have to freeze it for it to stay good...

I saved our top layer which was pound cake, we moved during the first year and some how it didn't survive the move.

All these stories are hilarious; how odd that so many obstacles came between couples and their plans to eat their cake on their anniversary. My husband and I will be married a year in October, we saved the top tier on our cake and plan to have at least a bite on our anniversary. It probably won't taste great but I'm a sucker for a good tradition!

ours is in our freezer. We have a little over 6 months 'till our first anniversary.

Cake isn't made to me frozen for a year so no, we didn't. Ours was too delicious to save anyway.

We chose to eat our cake and have it, too. I painted a portrait of my wedding cake which has turned into a service I offer at my studio. Quite an entrepreneurial celebration or our wedding cake and anniversary!

Nope. My cake was far too good to save. I ate it within three days of the wedding.

We saved the top tier of the cake, but we actually completely forgot about it until after our 1 year anniversary. I am pretty sure it is still in our deep freezer and we're coming up on five years now.

it all got eaten--my husband didn't even get a bite at our wedding! good thing for the taste test.

I saved the top of our wedding cake, but when I put it out to thaw, ants got into it. Gross I know! But it was August and cake was sweet, and so we didn't get to eat it. We ended up having a kick ass party instead!

We wanted to but when we got back from our honeymoon found out our inlaws, who took the top of the cake home for us, chose to eat it that night rather than freeze it for us. Gotta love family!

I had the flu on my first wedding anniversary. I had really been looking forward to eating the piece of cake that I had frozen, so, even though I was sick, we thawed it and tried to eat some. It was terrible. Mushy and bad-flavored. Too bad I didn't know about the pound cake!

Our baker very wisely recommended making our top layer out of pound cake if we wanted to eat it later, because pound cake freezes very well. We took her advice, and, it was still good after a year - we ate on it for several days, actually!

Nah, we ate all our extra cake in bed on our mini-honeymoon the days after the wedding.

we shared the cake the day after our wedding, right before we left on our honeymoon. My parents offered to buy us a cake for our 1 year anniversary and now that that is approaching, I think they are regretting that promise hehe
