Let's Dish: How Are You Celebrating Valentine's Day?

As PartySugar mentioned, this year, Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year fall on the same day, which will make for an interesting celebration. On Sunday, I'll actually be ringing in the Lunar New Year with some close relatives, Chinese banquet-style, so I'm reserving the day before to enjoy with my guy. We're keeping it simple and making his favorite meal together: spaghetti topped with giant meatballs, sautéed Winter greens, and traditional shortcake and Champagne for dessert.

Tell me: how are you ringing in Feb. 14?

We're going to get Five Guys burgers to go and eat them at home with a smashing bottle of wine.

Truthfully, I don't know. Hubbie and I are not big on formal celebrations. When it comes to holidays, we're easy-going and laid back. We play it by ear. In the past, he sometimes surprised me with tickets to the ballet or a play. Well, regardless of what happens, that day will be sentimental for us whether we formally celebrate it or not.

I made reservations at one of our favorite restaurants a few weeks ago. They're doing a Price Fixed menu with wine pairings and live jazz music--so it should be pretty fun. :-)

We might do something little, we both don't like going overboard so I just made him a note and a mix cd, and he's getting me a little surprise too...other than that we're just spending the day together, just like I like it.

We have been married for too many years so we celebrate on a different day due to all crowds at restaurants and such. And of course, he will be at the USC vs. UCLA basketball game...

My husband is across the country in Arizona for the next 2 1/2 weeks, so we will be celebrating Valentine's Day when he gets home at the end of the month. He will get me a card and flowers and I will pick up candy for him on the 15th when it goes on sale. The night he comes home, I'll make a gourmet steak dinner, probably with a bleu cheese sauce and some import beer (we don't drink wine). And lots and lots of sex, of course.

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day; I've never understood it. However, I will be working an 18 hour day in a restaurant that is catering to the guests celebrating this day. Weekend Brunch, two big parties (50+ guests each) and a Valentine's Dinner Menu are all in the works and I expect we will be swamped. My celebration will by sleeping after it is all over.

Well, my boyfriend's parents are coming to visit us for the weekends, so we're taking them out to brunch (especially cause Valentine's Day is my bf's dad's birthday). We've never really had a "romantic" Valentine's Day because we usually do something with his family for his dad. But we bought tickets to a hockey game for the next weekend, so we're going to make a day of it. That's pretty much our speed - sports and dinner! Lol

Uhh I'm married, but I don't really feel like doing anything. I'm probably going to see my parents over the weekend, because we're leaving the country soon.

I think we'll be heading to a pub with some friends. The USC vs. UCLA basketball game will be on :) Nothing especially romantic since neither of us really understand the point of Valentine's Day.

...oh yeah! I forgot to mention, I saw that recipe that YumSugar posted. ( http://www.yumsugar.com/Red-Velvet-Cupcakes-Pink-Cream-Cheese-Frosting-Brownie-Hearts-7316307 ) Red Velvet Cupcakes- they look easy to do and so delicious! So I think I will make those the day before and bring some cupcakes on a tapper ware on my secret picnic stash for our hike in Muir Woods. I think those cupcakes would go fabulously with a nice bottle of Zinfandel! yum, can't wait!

My man and I have been together for 3 1/2 years, so we done the whole dinner thing, the massage thing and so we wanted to keep it mellow but fun for valentines day this year. Besides the fact that Valentines day is going to be a Sunday and all the restaurants are going to packed with couples and reservations are going to be hard to come on by specially when we are so close to the date. We decided (ok I decided and he agreed! hehe) to skip the cliche valentines day dinner and head outside to play. So the plan is to drive to Muir Woods and enjoy a day there before heading back home for a home cooked dinner. This is something we've talked about and we wanted to do. And for the looks of it.. we are going to have good weather this Valentine Day! So what's more romantic than that?!, to share a nice hike among those big redwoods trees holding hands, taking pictures, maybe even go and hug a tree! I'm also thinking of sneaking in a bottle of wine or bubbly and some cheese and crackers -since apparently picnics are not allowed- For those who don't live in the Bay Area, Here's some info on Muir Woods: http://www.sftravel.com/muirwoodssanfrancisco.html I totally recommend to anyone to head outside, and be outdoors! Bike, walk or drive to a park or to the beach, anywhere!, and play with your special someone and breathe that fresh air on this Valentine Day. ..oh yeah! At home! I want to spend the day cuddling on the couch, watching movies and playing with our Wii, just hanging out together. I'm planning on making a yummy fancy dinner - including molten lava chocolate cakes, which are a total Valentine's Day cliche but I've never actually had one.
