When Traveling Stateside, Do You Seek Out Local Foods?

One benefit to visiting exotic locales is trying different kinds of food, but our country also boasts lots of local specialties. When I roam the US, I'm obsessed with tasting the regional faves, whether it's Texas barbecue, regional hot dog varieties, or different types of sandwiches. What about you?

I love trying out local food, it's one of the best parts of traveling!

i definitely make it a goal to seek out local flavors. i think that it's part of the joy of traveling, to find something that an area is known for and have them make it for you. it's great to get something at home, but when you get it fresh - and prepared the way that it was originally intented - it makes all the difference in a meal.

My husband and I called 2007 the year of the BBQ - since we visited a lot of friends in the South that year, and ate at every famous BBQ place we could! It's so much fun to find the local places - and the best local places are often not expensive at all!

Most definitely. I've eaten beignets and gumbo in New Orleans, shrimp and grits in Savannnah, clam chowder and lobster bisque in Boston, and In-n-Out Burger in California. And everyone who comes to visit me from out of town insists on getting a genuine Philly cheesesteak.Great. Now I'm hungry. :drool:

My big thing is that I try not to eat at national chain restaurants, especially if I'm traveling in an unfamiliar part of the country.

Frika,Pike Place Market! :)And for me, most of the reason to travel is to eat local foods. I try to make every meal something that is regional and as different as possible than what I am used to back home.

That is part of the fun of traveling but some places just don't have local food that appeals to me.

hmm, I'm trying to think of local vegetarian food. I'll eat all the avocados I can eat when I'm in California. And I guess there's pizza in New York or Chicago. I will look for places for my boyfriend--on our last trip, he ate a big ass lobster at a local seafood joint while I munched on world famous Maine grilled cheese.

How can you not try the local food when you to other states. MMMMMM Brisket from Texas, Cuban Sandwiches in Miami, Hot Dogs in New York and so much MORE!!!!!
