If it's a pretty formal event, I do. If it's just a dinner with my firends, not really because it's usually pot luck.

Why something expensive for a dinner party or such? It's just polite to bring something simple it's not as if it were a birthday and you're bringing a gift.

Always. But I am surprise by how many people don't. It is just bad manners to show up for a party without a small item for the hostess. No matter how casual the get together may be... you always take something.

Sorta off the subject...i remember one time i got invited to a new friend's house warming party she had asked everyone to bring their own alcohol to drink but when everone showed up with a bottle of wine she kept it for herself. (keep in mind we all brought her gifts for her new home).

It depends on the type of party. I'm taking a gift for the hostess of a dinner party I'm going to tonight, but if it's just a casual get-together with friends, usually not.

Yes, even to my parents or my bf's parents. Wine or a super nice loaf of bread from a specialty bakery (I know, maybe just in my circle) is always appreciated.

Usually! But if it's a just-hanging-out-with-best-friends-after-work thing, I generally don't grab anything. But otherwise I bring wine or Prosecco. YUM.

It depends on the party. If it's an actual coordinated party or brunch or real get-together, I always bring food of some sort (muffins, a cake, if it's being held by one of my bachelor friends I might bring him a cooked dinner for the next few nights) or at least a bottle of wine. If it's a last minute phone call asking if I want to come over in an hour, then generally not, unless I have something already baked or I run into Whole Foods and pick something up from the bakery.

Always. Even if the host insists not to. A bottle of wine, flowers, some baked goods I know they like.
