How's this for a Halloween fright? A woman in Auckland, New Zealand, was opening a package of Heinz-Watties "choice cut" frozen green beans when she came across a strange-looking foreign object. The unidentified frozen object in question was a shrunken mouse's head.
"I thought it was a little husk or something so I took it out of the microwave and pulled it out. It had eyes looking back at me," said Jacquie Lewis, the surprised recipient. If she hadn't stopped to take a closer look at the one-centimeter-wide object, she could have eaten it. She described the experience as "incredibly nauseating. I thought, 'If this is your head, where exactly is the rest of you?'"
Heinz-Watties explained that wildlife can get into its food products from time to time, but the thought of this happening to someone still makes me shudder. Have you ever found something in your store-bought products that shouldn't have been there?

If a company admits that this is a normal occurrence, guaranteed that I will never buy their products again!
1That would put me off frozen veggies forever! I'll be watching what I eat closer now since I'm addicted to the frozen seasoned veggies in steamer bags.
2I'm with you 4blankwalls.
3Well, that is a hell of a choice cut.
4That's not a nice surprise...I've only found corn in my broccoli, but that's pretty tame compared to a mouse head.
5that is revolting!
6I've found two yellow jackets and most of a beetle. I no longer buy Vons brand anything.
7I found a piece of wood in my lean cuisine yesterday!
8So it probably tasted the same as the actual Lean Cuisine, right?
Just kidding (kind of)--I hate how those pizzas smell so good, and then you eat then and the crust is just kind of...not tasty.
9it was weird, about 3 inches long, like a large splinter! yeah the food didn't taste very good prior to finding the wood, but I threw the rest out in case there were smaller splinters in there.
I would much rather find the splinter thing than a mouse head, ugghhhhh!
10Jeezaloo...I made frozen green beans 2 nights ago! Luckily I found no "foreign objects" in them.
11Dis-freaking-gusting!
12So, gross.
I found a very large moth in a Dole bagged salad...I don't buy bagged salads anymore.
13You know that was Bernard from the Rescuers, he snuck onto the frozen food truck and perished.
14Ohhhh...that is so disgusting...I can't even imagine finding that. I have found a rock in jarred salsa once, it freaked me out, but I like that kind of salsa best, so I still buy it..
15Some people have all the luck!
16that's the most disgusting thing that i've ever heard! once when my mom and i were at Olive Garden, we found a worm in our salad - and that just made me not want to eat anymore. it's awful that things like that get into food - i don't know what the process is to ensure quality control, but obviously things are getting through.
17My sister once found bug's legs in her salad from Red Lobster, we all immediately stopped eating and left. Strangely, she still managed to become a vegan!
18I found a very small green worm (centipede? don't know my bugs) in Nestle Quik powder. It was alive and moving around....
I called the company and complained. I received a load of coupons but I've never bought Nestle Quik again.
But a tiny green worm is no where near as offensive as a mouse head. Yuck. Here's to fresh veggies!
19I found a frog... yes, a FROG... on my Totino's frozen pizza a few years ago. It was tiny, like and inch or so, but clearly a frog. And clearly frozen. Disturbing.
20I've gotten a bit of a bug in a drink once, and that's put me off canned Thai iced tea since. If I found a HEAD in my bag of veggies, I would've taken the head and sent it back to the company. It's disgusting, and unacceptable. How could they let an head get into their product??? Personally, I think there's no excuses for that.

21Thankfully nothing more than an occasional tiny bug in cornmeal which isn't an uncommon thing for cornmeal.
22LOL at "choice cut," Jude C!
I would be so horrified if that happened to me. The worst I've ever found was a giant beetle that crawled out of some raspberries I was eating when I was a kid. I still am super careful about checking berries.
23There's really no way to prevent this from happening 100% of the time. People should not get so excited about it. I guarantee you animals and insects are present in your food chain right now.
Just be more careful when you check your food.
24oh so gross!!!!!
25Eww, that's disgusting !
26I found a big dead fly in my salad once. Yuk !
OMG! That's disgusting! Not to buy any of their products AGAIN, EVER!
27This is really disgusting. I would totally freak out if I saw that. I can't think of anything I've found in my food off the top of my head, but these comments are grossing me out!!!
28I'm from Auckland, New Zealand and I always buy my veggies fresh since hearing this story!!!
29There was also a news report about a WHOLE frozen mouse found in one of those frozen mircowave meals... too disgusting to imagine!!
We found 3 chunks of metal in the ice cream cake we bought for my boss' birthday last year. We found them when he bit into one. I still think I'd rather find metal than a mouse head.
I've never heard of that brand of frozen veggies, but I certainly wouldn't buy any after hearing that.
30That is so nasty! Ew!! I'm going to be paying extra attention to my frozen fruits now.
31I was about to get a bit of lunch, but I think I'll pass now.
32Disgusting..!!!!
33I got a cigarette butt in an omelet I had a diner. They acted like 'whatever' and didn't even offer me something else - not that I would've eaten another thing in that place.
34I found a whole grasshopper in a bag of fresh spinach once. It was kind of gross, but I took the bag back to the store and showed it to them. They immediately gave me my money back plus they gave me a new bag of spinach. It wasn't enough to make me not buy spinach ever again, but I am a lot more careful now!
35So I'm a total dork - when I first read this, I read it as "shrunken moose head." Which, when you think about it is a lot funnier and a tad more interesting!
36i've never found anything in my food, but there was a whole mouse (dead) in a bag of dog food we bought a few years ago. my mom couldn't figure out why the dogs weren't eating and when she looked in their bowl, there was the mouse in all it's glory. she didn't do anything since she said "they would just say it wasn't from the food bag" but we've never had mice in our house, nor have any of our neighbors. dogs didn't seem to be bothered by it once we threw it away though
37that is one of the nastiest things I've ever heard! my mom told me that one of her coworkers was having ice cream with her daughter that had big nuts in it. the daughter chewed into an especially crunchy nut that turned out to be a grasshopper! ew!
38I had a long fingernail tip, neatly clipped, in my yogurt once. They gave me a case of yogurt when I called. Grasshoppers jump. Mice scurry. Is it crazy to think that sometimes, they might be hiding in a garden or a farm and carried in with the vegeatables, and somebody might not see them? I don't want to pay somebody to inspect every bag. They check some, and that's it. Food should come from a garden, not a lab. Worms are better than MSG.
39a couple years ago my roomate was creasking eggs and suddenly stopped and said, 'oh god, gross.' i went over to see what happened and he advised me not to look in the garbage. i didn't. this guy works in surgery all day on hearts and other organs so i figured that if he told me it was gross, it most likely was pretty bad. it was a chicken fetus.
also, i worked at a coffeehouse and another employee was emptying a can of lentis (ItalPasta brand) and found this long hardened worm.
last instance, growing up we had a large garden (everything from corn to cantaloupe). my parents grew broccoli. my dad had started to eat his broccoli and asked my mom if she put rosemary on the vegetable. she said, 'no.' let me tell you, they never grew broccoli again. apparntly it was prone to worms in our region.
40When I was making soup from a box once, I found a spider, dead, in the box. Not a little one, but one at least 2 inches in diameter...
I never bought the soup from Campbell's boxes again.
41that's appalling!
42my sister found a pretty big pencil lead in a wiener once! and i know of someone else who had a dead rat baked into a loaf of bread. disgusting.
That's just sick but also it has to make you wonder if things like that can get into out food how well is the food looked at.I agree with 4blankwalls and RosaDilia.
43I'll shall also keep in mind never to buy Heinz-Watties frozen vegetables(if I ever move to New Zealand)
44Found an entire dead mouse in a boxed salad from a grocery store in Madison, Wisconsin. At least it was organic. Maybe they should start packaging them in little mouse-sized caskets.
