The Word "Foodie": Love It Or Hate It?

I use the word foodie more often than I would like to admit. As you probably know, the word means anyone who's really into food and for some reason, it sounds horrible to me - embarrassingly horrible. I actually really, really hate it, but I won't stop people from using it - or calling me it either - it just sort of makes me cringe inside. So now I want to know, what do you think of the word foodie?

It is better than fattie or foodaholic or cunning linguinist (a crafty pasta maker). I don't think it is so bad.

I agree with LuciLu - I think it's cute. But then again, I don't know too much about it and rarely use it.

I have mixed feelings about this word. I totally don't consider myself one because I never went to culinary school and don't look at food in a snobby way, but I guess in terms of being knowledgeable about food and being able to cook a variety of dishes well one could call me a foodie.

I'm apathetic to it. I wouldn't call myself a foodie even though it may fit me. A bit too trendy for me I guess.

i must admit it does bug me as it's been used around me mainly as a negative to describe someone obsessed with food or who overeats. that and it sounds too much like 'fattie' which is a word i truly dispise.

I really like it, but I'm wary to use it...especially to describe myself. I've always thought that it had to be applied to a specific type of food lover -- like you have to be constantly striving to find the better, the best, the most exotic. I will try anything (and love new and exciting meals, meals that make me nostalgic for tastes months later), but I would also be content with sushi and french fries for the rest of my days. So I'm not sure I count. And there, is some unnecessary rambling.

Hmmm, I must say that the word "Foodie" has never really irked me. I find it kind of cute and quirky! :) But the word "brain fart", now THAT is a word that makes me cringe... HA.
