Would You Drink This Rattlesnake-Infused Vodka?

I'm all for infusing vodka at home, but homemade vodka infused with rattlesnake may be going too far. I'm not the only one who thinks it's a little much — the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission recently seized 411 bottles of the illegal substance. Apparently this type of alcohol — liquor infused with insects or reptiles — is popular in some Asian cultures, as it is believed to be an aphrodisiac. I don't think I could take a swig from the bottle, but might be able to take a chilled shot of the potent concoction. How about you? Would you drink this rattlesnake-infused vodka?

Regardless of the animal or insect - this is horrible. Either if it is alive first or they kill it (directly or indirectly) for the alcohol...

I'm with Advah- I nearly had a heart attack just seeing the picture, so there's no way that vodka would be passing my lips.

For one, ick. For two, I feel bad for the snake. I had to guard a rattlesnake in AZ so it could be removed from the property (they're protected maybe?) and it was terrified of me more than I was of it.

And BTW,I could care less about the plight of the damn snakes.I despise snakes.There are far simpler ways to kill them than drowning them in vodka.

That is truly disgusting and a waste of perfectly good vodka.I'll never understand what possesses people to put crazy things into food and drink.Aside from that,rattlesnakes are POISONOUS,and I doubt that alcohol removes all (or any) of the toxicity.Simply stupid.

Za- Uh, are you joking? Morality definitely is what you make of it, thus, I have every right to judge/say that Asian countries are not very moral. If you don't like it, congratulations... you don't see me caring if you think they have great values. Yes, every country treats animals disgracefully, but as I said before, many Asian countries exploit animals in ways that go above and beyond.

plasticapple - A lot of cultures believe that snakes have medicinal value. It's meant to be consumed more as a medicine than as a way to get drunk.

I'd rather not touch the stuff, but I'd drink it before the Vietnamese cobra wine. They cut the snake open first. I think it's the gallbladder they want to infuse into it. :sick:

foxie, i dont agree with what you said. each country has its own culture and food habits. it is not up to us to judge if its moral or not. obviously everyone has the right to eat what they like, or what they agree with. but to say that its immoral to eat something that is traditional in ones culture is rude, specially the asian culture that is one of the oldest and richest around. Just think, what is "normal" to you may not be to others. That doesnt mean that they should not respect your beliefs. Eat what you like, but respect others aswell.

I wouldn't say that it's only Asian thing. I live in Estonia (little country in Eastern-Europe) and for us it's just old custom and there's nothing new about it. It was a common remedy here about few hundred years ago, but you can still find it from old people. Just alternative medicine.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO - not only is it wrong - it's just awful to think about it. how could you put a rattlesnake in a bottle, and then consider infusing vodka with it? that's just nasty!

Asian countries take it quite a few steps further, so no.. it isn't an ignorant statement. I stand behind it 100%. Eating monkey brains? Skinning live animals? Not to mention their crimes against human rights... So I repeat.... Asian countries are NOT where I look to moral guidance.

Animals should only be preserved in alcohol as part of a scientific collection, and even then in limited numbers for the species. I even feel the same way about the worm in the tequila.
