Earlier today we tested your knowledge of sushi sustainability. Here's another sushi-related question for you.
I've asked several times whether you'd be open to the idea of eating insects, and quite a few of you have responded with a resounding yes. Still, I have to raise the question when it comes to these pictures of insect sushi. Would you go as far as to eat insect sushi?

Single Dress
I thought I'd try anything once...but not that. I couldn't.
I too am usually really good about trying anything once...but I just don't think I could do it. Not with all those legs. I don't even like it if shrimp is served to me with the legs still on. ick
Put me down for HELL NO....
that's just gross
I mean do people really eat this? Please let me know if you've ever had or seen insect sushi!
Eww... no thanks.
If I was a wabbit!
I've subscribed to "try anything once" for like, my whole life, but HELLS NO! Ugh, just looking at it makes me shudder.
Ewww I would never eat that. Gross.
oh hell no....
Nothing that still LOOKS LIKE a bug. just no.
I was really hoping to see who would be game for this.
I don't even like LOOKING at that thing, so I could never bring myself to put that or any insect into my mouth. UGGGHHH now I'm all itchy!
I may not be able to sleep now. ick ick ick.
that actually makes me want to hurl.
it looks disgusting.
oh, i don't want to try.

why not?
Anything that's not raw fish is verboten to pass through my lips!
NO NO NO NO NO - that looks really really awful and is actually making me feel ill...so nope i would not eat that!
oh no! no way, ever. i love sushi, but
Oh gosh! That looks completely awful. How discusting.
I wonder would it be crunchy?
Lol... ok, I WOULD try it. I don't eat seafood, and bugs don't gross me out one tiny bit so... yes, I would TRY it. I don't think I'd eat a ton of it, though.... Many asian cultures eat bugs! What's the big deal?
mm no.
Like some one else said, I'll try (most) anything once, but that I could just not stomach!
i can admit it, i won't try a lot of things even once... insects are still animals and they're my friends, i could never eat them!
I'm scared of centipedes, so no, I would not put that near my mouth. I might try grasshoppers or ants though. Maybe a worm... but never something with so many legs that stings!
no thank you
HELL NO
I ate a cicada once. Wasn't great fun. Alive, scraping, screaming half-way down my esophagus.
HELL TO THE NO, LOL!!!
I don't think so. It gives me the willies just looking at the picture.
usually i say a wat sure to trying things once but this one I'll have to pass. I cannot stand my food staring back at me and that darn cricket frog looking thing with the big bug eyes was just too much. I wouldn't even have been okay if i had closed my eyes and ate. -shudder-
amazing how the majority of american culture perceives food like this. i'm sure it's some common food somewhere elese.
a wary sure* (sorry, i type too fast)
uuuuggggghh gross gross gross!!!!
EW NO!
I draw the line at bugs.
uh...sorry...NEXT!
Eww... that's SO nasty! Absolutely no way would I touch that, let alone, eat it! I'll pass thank you.
I've eaten mealworms before and they were actually not bad. So yeah, I'd try this.
i'd try it, why not
Uh, no.
Well the whole point of insect cuisine is to CHANGE the traditional pattern of thinking, reflected by the numerous "ewwwws" and "hell no's" and "gross" reflected in the comments. The benefits of encouraging a shift in thinking when it comes to looking at insects as an alternative are: 1) Nutritional benefits of being low in fat and high in protein; 2) The ability to feed nations that do not have regular access to food; 3) Supporting the environment in numerous ways - such as less pesticides and a more sustainable environment. The ironic thing is that most people have not tried insects as cuisine and their reactions are based on societal expectation as opposed to independent evaluation. I would encourage everyone to challenge themselves, expand their thoughts and to look at the bigger picture.
