Would You Eat This Sandwich?

While watching an episode of Diary of a Foodie on the new Gourmet website, I came across a very interesting sandwich.

The magazine's editor in chief, Ruth Reichl, was making The Max Special, a sandwich with peanut butter, mayonnaise, and pimento-stuffed olives. At first I thought, "gross!" Then I realized if Ms. Reichl is eating this sandwich, it must be pretty darn delicious. I plan on making one to see how it tastes.

What do you think? Would you eat this peanut butter, mayonnaise, and pimento-stuffed olive sandwich?

I've made this sandwich, actually. I was surprised by it. I'm not a big fan. It's not actually disgusting, but it is an acquired taste. My daughter loves them, though. She makes them all the time, now.

Many residents area around Clark county IL have enjoyed this sandwich (buttered and grilled) for many years. It is one of my favorites! According to my Mother and Aunt, it was first served in that area by the local "Candy Kitchen", a gathering place for teens and high school students.

I used to eat Peanut Butter Banana and Mayo sandwiches as a kid. i would try this

Peanut butter = yummy Pimento olives = yummy Mayo (GOOD mayo) = yummy So why am I not convinced this wouldn't be a gross out? IDK, I guess I'll have to try it!

At this point being pregnant its hard to say. I guess the peanut butter becomes the sweet and the green olives the salty. I don't know I might try it but stay close to the kitchen sink LOL.

Well I like peanut butter. I like mayo. I don't really like olives. So I guess 2/3 isn't too bad, right?

I'm not sure who Ruth Reichel is, but I don't care if Patty LaBelle, Oprah or my Great Grandma was eating this mess, I wouldn't eat it.

Seriously, I SO wish that you would have tried this BEFORE you posted this, so you could have at least given a LITTLE bit of an idea of how it tastes! Especially since I just can NOT see myself actually going home and making it because my family might have me committed thinking I lost my mind.

Not a big fan of olives. However, it could be a flavor combination that that might work. I'd give it a try, especially since it seems to be a favorite of someone who really knows her food.
