It's Nov. 1, and I'm happy to say our Thanksgiving coverage starts now! Turkey day is my favorite holiday, and you can rest assured that over the next 26 days we will be providing the best Thanksgiving recipes, tips, how tos, and ideas to make your meal a memorable one. To kick things off I want to know what starchy side — mashed or sweet potatoes — you prefer on Thanksgiving.

Mashed please! Mmmm gravy.
Mashed potatoes. I really dislike the taste of sweet potatoes. I wish I liked them though because they're so much more nutritious.
I love sweet potatoes ... but not with marshmallows like in that picture. They're already sweet; they don't need all that extra sugar!
Mashed potatoes, especially if the sweet potatoes look like that. I hate the marshmallow-topped ones.
I can't choose!!!
Sweet potatoes, but I'm with Katie82981, not with all those marshmallows on them. I like them plain baked or roasted or mashed even just no extra stuff please.
I need both! When I make holiday sweet potatoes though, I use maple syrup and homemade granola with pecans on top. The marshmallows on top are supposedly "kid friendly" but even my kids hate 'em like that.
Mashed potatoes, my mom makes the best gravy! We've never had sweet potatoes during Thanksgiving, and I only recently discovered how delicious sweet potato fries are, as well as the deliciousness of roasted (with other root veggies, olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic) yams and sweet potatoes. YUMMY!
Got to have the mash with lots of home made gravy!
Sweet potatoes!!!
Curses to you Yum! I love both and hate to choose. We eat them all year and I do love them with marshmallows, toasted pecans and lots of butter. Don't forget a drizzle of maple syrup.
And thank you for not calling them yams - that drives me nuts (and I don't have far to
go).
i say both! although i voted for sweet potatoes
At Thanksgiving, I like mashed potatoes better because I don't care for the caramelized/overly sweet sweet potatoes that my mom makes, but I love her mashed potatoes (she puts mayo in them and they're so moist and yummy). Ordinarily, I prefer sweet potatoes, though...nice and plain-roasted.
I'm with FinnLover. I absolutely LOVE mashed potatoes! But I don't like sweet potatoes, and they're sooo good for you. I wish I did.
Mashed taters! But I have recently developed a serious thing for Alexia's baked Sweet Potato Chipotle Fries. Yuuuuuummy!
Sweet potatoes. I just like them boiled.
mashed potatoes are the best.
I have been tasting my mom's sweet potato casserole in my mouth for weeks now! I can't wait
i love both. cant choose.
My grandmother makes sweet potatoes like baked potatoes but with brown sugar and margarine instead of butter and salt and they are soooooooooooo good!!!
I prefer yams over sweet potatoes anyway, but baked potatoes are great too!
Mashed potatoes! Like a couple of others that posted, I too hate sweet potatoes. I don't like any sweet food except for dessert!
Oh definitely BOTH!!!
Where's the option for "Both, please"???
mmmmmmmm I LOVE LOVE LOVE mashed potatoes. i like them really creamy and hot with either butter, gravy or both! and with a piece of turkey or roast beef on the fork with them... omg i'm in heaven!
my friend also made great fluffy mashed potatoes by putting cream cheese in them, it was always his offering for the christmas potluck we had with our friends at university. mmmm
I love sweet potatoes. Well, I loved mashed too... but I have to go with sweet. Mmm.
I love sweet potatoes without marshmallows. I like mashed potatoes, but I am pretty particular about the type of potato. I like smashed red potatoes, or just roasted. Regular mashed potatoes are a bit too creamy for my preference.
Mashed potatoes
Mashed..for SURE!
mashed but i luke both
like
Sweet potatoes.
Although I do like both of them.
BOTH. we must have both at my family.
