Would You Rather Eat Stovetop or Oven-Baked Macaroni and Cheese?

You may not think there's much of a difference between stovetop and baked macaroni and cheese, but really, there is! The stovetop version, like the childhood classic from the blue box, is wonderfully creamy. Oven-baked macaroni and cheese, on the other hand, has an addictive cheesy and crispy topping. I like my mac and cheese piping hot from the oven. How about you?

I would put my homemade, three-cheese stovetop macaroni and cheese up against any baked version, any day. In my experience, the cheese sort of breaks down and isn't as creamy and delicious in the baked version, but my stovetop version is creamy and absolutely delicious. Nothing like the blue box at all...

I Love my mac and cheese Piping Hot from the oven too, Katie! I have eaten every kind of mac and cheese since I was a young PA Pioneer Girl! I always Love to use Frank's Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce, Original Hot Tabasco, Cajun Spice, Cumin, Louisiana Hot Sauce and Veggie add-ins, etc. Great take, Susannah! :DROOL: :thumbsup: :highfive: :hug: :medal: :pinkribbon: sweetkirstin :heart:

I never cared for powdered, spray can or out of the jar cheese.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't associate stove top with blue box. I prefer homemade stove top, because it's what I ate growing up. The first time I had oven-baked, I couldn't quite fathom why anyone would want crunchy stuff in their mac n cheese. Though over time I've come to appreciate the oven-baked variety (especially if there are add-ins such as chicken or broccoli), stove top is still my favorite.

I think they both have their places. I make a MEAN oven-baked mac and cheese that's to die for and perfect for a nice dinner, but sometimes, when I'm feeling a little nostalgic and need to just relax and destress, I love to have a little kid lunch. A nice big bowl of kraft mac and cheese with cut-up hot dogs mixed into it just makes me feel like I'm 5 again. Not gourmet by any stress, but sometimes it's just what you need.

I prefer to make my own...The boxed stuff disgusts me...I think I'd only use the box stuff if I were desperate. But...That's just me.

I hate oven baked mac and cheese. I hate elbow macaroni, and I really hate mushy pasta. We never had the oven baked as kids (my dad hates cheese, and casseroles in general), maybe that's why? But my sister absolutely LOVES the baked kind. So who knows?

Oven-baked, the way Mom made. I never tasted the boxed stuff until I was in college. To this day, I sincerely believe that whoever came up with the idea of powdered "cheese" should have had their nards trampled and stapled to the floor. But then again, I'm not opinionated. ;)
